Will New York Unemployment deny my claim for late questionnaire?

Got a questionnaire from unemployment a few weeks ago but completely forgot about it with everything going on. Just remembered today and submitted it but its past the due date. Anyone know if they will automatically deny my claim for being late? Really need these benefits and freaking out.

Your fine, I did the same thing last month. As long as you submitted it they will process it. They might take longer to review it but they wont deny just for being late.

I found a way to actually talk to someone at unemployment about this! Used this site claimyr.com - it calls and waits on hold then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but was worth it to get an answer. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call...

Here's what you need to know about late questionnaires: 1. They typically give a 14-day grace period 2. Always document why you were late 3. Keep calling until you reach someone 4. Check your spam folder regularly for future notices 5. Set up direct deposit alerts so you know if payments stop Best way to reach them is using claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and connect you to an agent. Worth the $20 to get this sorted out quickly. Don't panic! I was in the exact same situation 2 months ago - forgot about my questionnaire for almost 3 weeks because it went to my spam folder. I called them (took forever to get through) and they told me as long as you submit it within 30 days they'll still process it. They just flag it for manual review which adds like 1-2 weeks to processing time. Your benefits won't be automatically denied. Just make sure to check your account daily for any other notices and maybe set up email alerts so this doesn't happen again!

This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was literally losing sleep over this thinking my claim would be automatically denied. The spam folder thing is so real - I need to check that more often. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain the whole process, it's super reassuring to know they have that 30-day window and just do manual review. Definitely setting up those email alerts now!

Just went through this exact situation last week! I submitted my questionnaire 10 days late and was freaking out too. Called the DOL and they said late submissions don't automatically disqualify you - they just get flagged for additional review which can delay your payments by 1-2 weeks. The key is to call them and explain the situation. They're usually understanding if you have a valid reason and it's not a pattern. Also pro tip - log into your NY.gov account and make sure all your contact info is updated so you don't miss future notices. You should be fine, just stay on top of it going forward!

Thank you so much for sharing this! It's such a relief to hear from someone who just went through the same thing. I was honestly convinced my claim would be denied and I'd lose everything. The fact that they're understanding about valid reasons gives me hope. I definitely need to update my contact info - I think some of my notifications might be going to an old email address. Really appreciate you mentioning the 1-2 week delay timeline too, at least now I know what to expect. This community has been a lifesaver today! ๐Ÿ™

I had this happen to me about 6 months ago! Submitted my questionnaire almost 2 weeks late because I was dealing with a family emergency and completely spaced on it. I was terrified they'd deny my claim but they didn't. What happened was: 1. My payments got temporarily held while they reviewed it 2. I had to call and explain why I was late (family emergency in my case) 3. They processed it after about 10 days and released all my back payments The rep told me they rarely deny claims just for late questionnaire submissions unless it becomes a repeated pattern or you ignore it completely for like 30+ days. Since you submitted it and it was only a few weeks, you should be okay. Just be prepared for a slight delay in processing. If you want to speed things up, definitely call them to explain the situation. I know it's hard to get through but it's worth it for peace of mind. You've got this! ๐Ÿ’ช

This is so reassuring to read! Thank you for breaking down exactly what happened in your situation. The fact that they released your back payments after explaining the situation gives me a lot of hope. I'm definitely going to call them tomorrow to explain what happened - life has just been overwhelming lately and I completely forgot about the questionnaire. It's good to know they understand that people have legitimate reasons for being late sometimes. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline too, helps me know what to expect. This whole thread has been amazing for my anxiety levels! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I literally just went through this exact same thing 2 weeks ago! I was in full panic mode when I realized I submitted my questionnaire 5 days late. Called the DOL (used that claimyr service someone mentioned - totally worth it) and the rep explained that they have an informal grace period and rarely deny claims for being a few weeks late, especially if it's your first time. They said the system automatically flags late submissions for manual review but that doesn't mean denial. Mine got approved after about 8 days of review. Just make sure you don't have any other outstanding issues with your claim and you should be fine. The stress isn't worth it - they deal with late submissions all the time!
