When will NY unemployment show my benefit rate? Stuck at $182 for two weeks

I filed for ny unemployment 2 weeks ago and my account is only showing the minimum benefit rate of $182. When will my ACTUAL benefit rate be calculated? I made decent money last year and know I should qualify for more. Is there something wrong with my claim? Do I need to upload additional wage info? I'm getting really frustrated because I have bills due next week and need to know how much I'll actually receive!

I've been through this exact situation last month. The system starts everyone at the minimum rate while they verify your wages. Mine took 18 days to update to my correct amount. As long as you provided accurate employer information when you filed, they should automatically update it. Keep certifying weekly in the meantime! The good news is that when they do update it, you'll get back pay for the difference between $182 and your actual rate for any weeks you've already certified.

Thanks for the info. So I just keep claiming each week at the $182 rate and wait? No one at NYSDOL mentioned this when I filed. Do I need to call them or just wait it out?

mine took 3 weeks to update last year. just keep certifying

3 weeks seems like forever when bills are due but glad to hear it eventually updated for you!

The $182 is just the minimum base rate while they're processing everything. Don't worry too much yet! They have to verify your wages with all your employers from your base period (usually the first 4 of the last 5 completed calendar quarters). Sometimes employers are slow responding to NYSDOL's verification requests, which is what causes these delays. If it goes beyond 3 weeks, THEN you might want to follow up. But this is completely normal at the 2-week mark.

actually this isnt always true. my sister got stuck at the minimum for a month because one of her employers didnt respond. she had to call and provide paystubs to prove her income. sometimes u gotta be proactive with nysdol

Speaking from experience, getting through to NYSDOL on the phone is basically impossible unless you have hours to waste calling and hanging up. After I couldn't get through for days, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and finally got connected to an agent within 30 minutes. They have this demo video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent explained that sometimes they need extra verification for income, especially if you had multiple employers or worked in different states. They fixed my benefit rate issue during that call and it updated in the system the next day.

I've never heard of that service! Did you have to provide pay stubs or anything when you finally got through? I worked for the same company all last year so verification should be straightforward.

Be careful providing ANY of your personal info to third party services!!!! The NYSDOL system is TERRIBLE but at least it's official. These delays are BY DESIGN to save the state money. If you wait, it will eventually update, but you need to KEEP CERTIFYING every week while you wait!!!!

Claimyr doesn't actually access your unemployment account or ask for sensitive info - they just connect your call to NYSDOL so you don't have to keep redialing. You still talk directly with the official NYSDOL agents. But yes, definitely keep certifying weekly regardless!

My benefit rate took exactly 17 days to update from the minimum to my actual amount. Does anyone know what formula they use to calculate the weekly benefit? I got $421 but my coworker who I think made about the same as me got $458.

New York calculates your weekly benefit rate as 1/26 of the wages paid in the highest quarter of your base period, up to the maximum benefit of $563 in 2025. So if your highest quarter earnings were different from your coworker's, you'd get different amounts. Also, if either of you had part-time work or gaps in employment during your base period, that affects the calculation too.

Just wanted to update - my benefit rate finally updated today! Went from $182 to $504. They must have verified my wages with my employer. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance. For anyone else experiencing this, just keep certifying weekly while you wait for the update.

That's great news! And you should be getting the difference for any weeks you already certified at the lower rate. Usually shows up as a separate payment.
