When did the extra $600 for unemployment end in New York?
I've been trying to figure out exactly when the extra $600 weekly unemployment payments stopped in NY. I remember getting them for a while but can't remember the exact cutoff date. Was it July 2020 or did it go longer? I'm helping my sister who's filing now and she keeps asking if there's any extra money still available. I know things have changed a lot since then but want to make sure I'm giving her accurate info about what to expect from NYS Department of Labor.

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) that provided the extra $600 per week ended on July 31, 2020. After that there was a brief period with no extra payments, then a $300 weekly supplement was added later. But all those pandemic-era enhancements are completely done now. Your sister will only get the regular NYS Department of Labor weekly benefit amount based on her wages.

•Thanks! So there's absolutely nothing extra anymore? Just the regular UI amount?

•Correct - just the standard weekly benefit rate calculated from her base period wages. No federal supplements or enhancements.

Yes, July 31, 2020 was the end date for FPUC. After that there were other programs like Lost Wages Assistance ($300/week for a few weeks) and then another round of FPUC at $300/week, but all pandemic unemployment programs ended in September 2021. Current NYS Department of Labor benefits are back to pre-pandemic levels - just the regular weekly benefit amount with no federal add-ons.

•Wait so there was $300 extra after the $600 ended? I think I missed out on some payments then because I never got anything extra after July 2020.

•There were gaps between programs and eligibility requirements changed. If you think you missed payments you were entitled to, you'd need to contact NYS Department of Labor, though at this point it might be too late to claim retroactive payments from 2020-2021.

If your sister is having trouble reaching NYS Department of Labor to ask questions about her claim, I had good luck with Claimyr (claimyr.com). They help you get through to an actual agent instead of sitting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I needed to get specific info about my benefit calculation.

•Interesting, never heard of that service. Did it actually work to get you connected faster?

•Yeah it saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals. Worth checking out if she needs to talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor.

The whole system was such a mess during covid... took forever to get claims processed even with all that extra money floating around. at least now the regular process is more predictable even if the amounts are lower
