What has the most unemployment claims in NYS Department of Labor system right now?
I'm trying to understand which industries or regions in New York are seeing the highest unemployment rates lately. My cousin lost her job in hospitality last month and I'm in manufacturing wondering if my sector is next. Does NYS Department of Labor publish data on which areas have the most new claims being filed? I've been looking at their website but can't find current breakdowns by industry or county. Anyone know where to find this info or have insights on what's hitting hardest right now?

NYS Department of Labor releases monthly labor statistics on their website under the Research and Statistics section. From what I've seen, retail and food service are still filing a lot of claims, especially in upstate regions. Manufacturing has been more stable but there were some layoffs in certain counties recently. The data is usually about 6-8 weeks behind current events though.

•Thanks! I'll check that section. Do you know if they break it down by specific counties or just regions?

my friend works at a temp agency and she says they're seeing tons of people from warehousing and logistics lately, like way more than usual

If you're looking for real-time insights, you might want to call NYS Department of Labor directly. I know it's hard to get through but I used claimyr.com recently to actually reach an agent - they have this system that gets you connected without waiting on hold for hours. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. The agent I spoke with mentioned they're definitely seeing spikes in certain sectors but couldn't give specific numbers over the phone.

•Interesting, never heard of that service. Did they charge you anything to get connected?

•Yeah there's a fee but honestly it was worth it to actually talk to someone instead of getting hung up on after an hour of waiting. The agent was really helpful about my specific situation.

I work in data analysis and from what I can see unemployment is definitely higher in certain upstate counties compared to NYC metro area. Tourism-dependent areas got hit pretty hard and haven't fully recovered. Construction has been variable - some areas busy with infrastructure projects while others are slowing down.

honestly the whole system is just overwhelmed right now, doesn't matter what industry you're in if you lose your job you're gonna be waiting weeks just to get your first payment

•So true! My adjudication took forever and I still don't understand why. At least I finally got approved but the whole process was stressful.
