What days does NYS Department of Labor unemployment pay come through?

Quick question - what days of the week does unemployment pay usually hit your account? I just certified for my weekly claim yesterday and wondering when I should expect the money. Is it always the same day or does it vary? This is only my second week claiming so still figuring out the timing.

Unemployment payments from NYS Department of Labor typically process on Tuesdays and Wednesdays if you certify your weekly claim on Sunday or Monday. If you certified yesterday, you should see the deposit by Wednesday at the latest, assuming there are no issues with your claim.

Perfect, thank you! So if I keep certifying on Mondays I should expect it every Wednesday?

mine always comes tuesday morning but i think it depends on your bank too. some banks are faster than others at processing the deposit from nys dept of labor

The payment schedule can vary slightly based on holidays and when you submit your weekly certification. NYS Department of Labor processes payments Monday through Wednesday typically. If you're consistently certifying on the same day each week, you'll start to see a pattern. Just make sure you're meeting all the job search requirements because any issues there can delay payment.

Wait what are the job search requirements? Nobody told me about that when I filed my claim!

You need to complete at least 3 work search activities per week and log them. Check your my.ny.gov account for the specific requirements for your claim type.

I've been waiting since last Tuesday and still nothing. Called the NYS Department of Labor number like 50 times and just get hung up on. This system is so broken.

I had the same issue getting through to NYS Department of Labor agents. Ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they actually got me connected to someone who could check my payment status. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Turned out my claim had an issue that was holding up payment that I never would have known about otherwise.

Just want to add that if your payment is late it might be in adjudication. Mine got stuck for 2 weeks because they needed to verify something about my previous job. Once that cleared up the payments came through normally on Tuesdays.

I've been getting mine consistently on Tuesdays around 10am for the past few months. The key is to certify as early as possible on Monday - I usually do it right after midnight and the payment hits Tuesday morning like clockwork. If you wait until later in the day Monday or certify on Tuesday, it might not process until Wednesday. Also heads up that during holiday weeks the schedule can shift by a day or two.

That's really helpful about certifying right after midnight on Monday! I didn't realize the timing within the day could make a difference. I've been waiting until Monday evening to certify so that might be why I'm not seeing a consistent pattern yet. Going to try your approach next week and see if I get Tuesday morning deposits too.

I've been claiming for about 6 months now and can confirm that Tuesday is the most reliable day. I certify every Sunday night around 8pm and almost always see the deposit Tuesday by noon. The few times it was delayed to Wednesday were during weeks with federal holidays. One tip - make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your NY.gov account because any banking issues can cause delays. Also keep all your job search documentation handy just in case they audit your claim, which can happen randomly and will hold up payments until resolved.

This is really good advice about the direct deposit info! I actually had an issue with my bank account details being outdated when I first filed and it caused a week delay before I figured out what was wrong. Also wanted to add that you can check your payment history on the NY.gov portal to see if there are any pending issues with your claim. If there's a hold or flag on your account, it will usually show up there before you even realize payments have stopped coming.

Been claiming for about 3 months now and my payments have been pretty consistent on Tuesdays when I certify on Monday mornings. One thing I learned the hard way - if you have any changes to report (like picking up a part-time job or temporary work), make sure to report it accurately during certification. I once didn't report some odd jobs I did and it flagged my account for review, which delayed payments for almost 2 weeks. The NYS Department of Labor is pretty strict about accuracy. Also, if you're getting paid by check instead of direct deposit, add an extra 3-5 business days for mail delivery.

That's a really important point about reporting any work accurately! I'm new to this and wasn't sure how strict they are about small odd jobs or temporary work. Do you know if there's a minimum amount you have to report, or is it literally any income at all? I want to make sure I don't accidentally trigger a review like you did. Also good to know about the check delivery time - I'm using direct deposit but that's helpful for anyone who might be waiting on paper checks.
