Stuck in ny unemployment limbo for 4 months with zero updates
Starting to lose my mind over here. Been waiting since April for my unemployment claim to move forward. It's been sitting in this 'pending review' status for over 4 months now! Every time I call they just say 'we see your case is under review' and nothing else. I've sent emails, left messages, tried the online portal... nothing changes. How is anyone supposed to survive like this? I've burned through all my savings and am now running up credit card debt just to pay rent. Is this happening to anyone else or am I just uniquely cursed with bad luck? The worst part is not knowing if I'll ever actually get approved or not.

Same boat my friend. Been waiting since February (going on 5 months now). Last time I called they said 'its in the queue' whatever that means. Its ridiculous how they expect people to survive with no income for months. The system is broken beyond belief.

•5 months?? That's even worse than my situation! Have you tried contacting your local representative? I'm thinking about doing that next week.

•Yeah I emailed my assembly person twice and they just sent back generic responses about how theyll 'look into it'. Still nothing.

•call ur state senator instead. assembly ppl have less pull with the unemployment office tbh

After 3 months of waiting I finally got through to someone who could actually help. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback with a real person. They resolved my pending issue in like 10 minutes once I actually got to talk to them. Talking to an agent got my money unlocked so fast - wish I'd found this months ago. Here's a vid about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•this sounds like an ad... does this actually work? never heard of it before

•Yeah I was skeptical too but I was desperate. It actually does what it says - they just keep calling for you and then connect you when someone answers. Saved me from the hold music hell.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've been on hold for literally 3+ hours multiple times 🤮

•It worked for me! They just keep dialing until they get through, then your phone rings when there's an actual human on the line. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after weeks of trying.

•I get being skeptical, but this one actually did what it promised. Saved me from losing my apartment tbh. Just sharing what worked for me.

I waited 3 months and then got denied. Fun times. Then had to appeal and waited another 2 months for THAT decision. The whole system is designed to make you give up.

The real problem is they're still using computer systems from like the stone age. My friend works in IT and says their backlog is partly cuz they're using COBOL programming from the 1980s. Maybe if they updated their tech we wouldn't all be suffering.

•This is 100% accurate. My uncle works at NYSDOL and says they've been trying to update the system for years but keep running into budget issues and contractor problems.

•yeah and then when covid hit they were totally overwhelmed cuz no one knows how to program in COBOL anymore lmao. like trying to fix a model T with modern mechanics 😂

Here's what worked for me to get my pending case resolved with NY unemployment: First, document EVERYTHING. Every call, every email, every interaction. Dates, times, reference numbers, and agent names if possible. Second, try multiple contact methods simultaneously: - Keep certifying weekly even while pending - Email your state senator AND assembly person (not just one) - Try calling at exactly 8:00am when they open - Send a secure message through the unemployment portal Third, if all else fails, I found using Claimyr.com was worth every penny. They got me connected to an actual human who could help instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent I spoke with was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and cleared it immediately. Fourth, check your spam folder regularly! I missed an important document request for two weeks because it went to spam. Lastly, be persistent but polite with agents. They're dealing with thousands of cases and getting angry doesn't help (though I totally understand the frustration!). Hang in there - the system is awful but eventually it does work if you keep pushing.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I'm going to try contacting my state senator tomorrow. Did you just call their office directly?

Tyrone Johnson
•Yeah I called AND emailed. Emailing seemed to work better cuz they could forward it directly to their unemployment contact person. Make sure you include your full name, claim ID (if you have it), and when you applied.

•I've been sending messages through the portal for weeks with zero response. Did you actually get replies that way?

•The portal is hit or miss. I sent 6 messages before getting any response. But I was told they DO read them all eventually, so keep sending them.

•It's the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. Once I got someone on the phone, they fixed my issue in minutes.

CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES!!!!! Cannot stress this enough. I was pending for 3.5 months, called my state senator's office, and my case was resolved in 8 days. They have direct lines to DOL that we don't have access to.

my theory is they just put everyone on pending hoping people will give up or find jobs before they have to pay us 🤔

•100% true. My cousin works for the state (not unemployment but another agency) and says its literally a waiting game to reduce their payout amounts.

•This is such a conspiracy theory. They're just overwhelmed and understaffed. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

•@profile 19 ok bootlicker 🙄 keep defending a broken system

•I'm not defending it, just saying they're not evil masterminds, just incompetent bureaucrats. The result is the same either way I guess 🤷♂️

Check your online account for any outstanding documents or questionnaires they need! My claim was stuck because apparently they sent me an email about needing additional info, but the email went to spam so I never saw it. Once I uploaded the docs they needed, it got approved in a week.

•I've checked a million times and there's nothing there asking for documents. The status just says 'pending review' with no other info. It's maddening!

They're the absolute worst. I filed in May and didn't get a dime until August. What finally worked was I found a number to a specific department (can't remember which one now) and just kept calling it every single day until someone took pity on me and transferred me to someone who could help.

My advice: If ur claim is stuck in pending for more than 6 weeks, its probably flagged for manual review. Could be identity verification, employer dispute, or random audit. Try calling and specifically asking 'Is there a flag on my account and if so what type?' This worked for me - turned out there was an ID verification flag that nobody had told me about.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll definitely ask about flags specifically next time I call.

if u do the math... if everyone waits 4 months for benefits and 10% give up... that's millions of dollars they don't have to pay. just saying 👀

Does anyone know if they backpay for all the weeks you were pending once approved? Or do you just lose that money?
0 coins
Natasha Petrov
•They're supposed to backpay everything as long as you've been certifying each week while waiting. I got all mine in one lump sum when finally approved.

Connor O'Brien
•You HAVE to certify every week even while pending or you lose those weeks!!! I learned that the hard way and lost a month of benefits.

u tried twitter? sometimes if u tweet at NYSDOL with ur issue they respond faster. embarrassing them publicly seems to work lol. worth a shot!

Stop wasting time on the phone. It never helps. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) after 3 months of getting nowhere and had my issue fixed in one call. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast

•sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this?

•Yeah, I was in the same boat as OP. Stuck in pending for months, savings drained. I was desperate enough to try anything. You pay them and they keep calling the unemployment line until they get through, then they connect you with the agent. Better than spending hours on hold yourself.

•huh, that actually sounds useful. might give it a try if my senator's office doesn't come through by next week
