New York Unemployment: Will partial UI claims extend beyond 26 week limit?
I've been on unemployment for a while now. Started with full benefits for 16 weeks, then got a part time job in March. Been claiming partial benefits since then, using 2 days per week. My effective days show 8 weeks remaining but that would put me over the 26 week limit. Not sure if I should keep claiming until the days run out or stop at 26 weeks exactly. Anyone know how this works?

The system will automatically stop you when you hit your maximum benefit amount. Just keep certifying as normal until then. The partial days don't count as full days against your claim, so you might actually get more calendar weeks than you think 👍

Hey guys I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this! Used this site claimyr.com - it calls and waits on hold then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Partial benefits are weird with the math fr. Each effective day is worth 1/4 of your weekly benefit. So when ur only claiming 2 days, ur stretching out ur benefits longer than 26 calendar weeks

Keep claiming until the system tells you to stop. The DOL computer handles all the calculations automatically so u dont need 2 worry about it

Its actually a common misconception that UI is limited to exactly 26 weeks. The real limit is on your total benefit amount and effective days. Since your working part time, those 2 days per week make your benefits stretch longer than 26 calendar weeks. Just keep certifying normally and the system will tell you when you've reached your maximum. If you need to speak with someone to confirm, I'd recommend using claimyr.com - they'll get you through to an agent who can explain it in detail.
