New York Unemployment: Starting temp contract job with 84 days benefits left - what happens after contract ends?
Got 84 days of benefits left and just landed a temp W2 contract job starting end of April. Contract length unknown but probably 3-6 months. Need help understanding what happens with my benefits when I start working and what to do when the contract ends. Anyone been through this?

When you start working, you'll need to stop certifying. Make sure to report your income accurately on your last certification. Keep your claim open just in case - it stays valid for a year from when you first filed. When the contract ends, you can start certifying again and use those remaining days if you're still within your benefit year.

•Thanks! Do I need to do anything special to keep the claim open besides just not certifying?

•Nope! Just stop certifying when u start working. The system automatically keeps it open for the year 👍

Hey I was in the same boat! Found this service called claimyr.com that helped me get through to an agent to sort everything out. Costs $20 but they wait on hold and connect you when someone picks up. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

MAKE SURE TO PRINT ALL YOUR PAYMENT HISTORY AND SAVE IT!!! Trust me, youll need it if anything goes wrong when you try to restart benefits later.

Important: Document your last day of regular unemployment and first day of work. Take screenshots of everything. NY unemployment system is a mess and youll need proof if they try to say you got overpaid later 🙄

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to do: Before Starting Work: - Print/save all payment history - Screenshot your remaining days - Complete final certification accurately During Contract: - Keep all pay stubs - Save contract details/emails - Don't certify while working After Contract Ends: - If within benefit year, restart certifying - If benefit year expired, file new claim - Use claimyr.com if you need to reach an agent Tip: Keep checking your unemployment inbox weekly even while working. Sometimes they send important notices you don't wanna miss.
