New York Unemployment: Need help stopping IRS wage garnishment from unemployment overpayment
The IRS is going to start garnishing my wages for unemployment overpayment. Need to find out about getting representation to stop this. Anyone gone through this before? How much did it cost and was it worth it?

I went through this last year. Got a tax advocate through the local legal aid society. They helped me set up a payment plan and stopped the garnishment. Didnt cost me anything since I qualified for free help based on income.

Hey I was dealing with the same issue! Used claimyr.com to finally get through to unemployment and got it sorted. They charge $20 but totally worth it to actually talk to someone. Check out their process here: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). They're actually part of the IRS but independent and help people dealing with financial hardship. Their number is 877-777-4778. They can help stop the garnishment while you work things out.

Look into getting an experienced tax attorney. I paid around $1500 but they got my garnishment reduced from 25% to 10% and negotiated a better payment plan. Plus they dealt with all the paperwork which was worth every penny tbh.
