NYDOL website issues prevented claiming weeks - How to get paid for missed weeks?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting paid for some weeks I couldn't claim. The website wasn't working and I couldn't get through on the phone lines to get help. Now that the website issues are fixed, I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to claim for past weeks and get paid?

Ugh, been there done that. The system is such a mess! Have you tried calling the backdated claims department? They might be able to help you file for those missed weeks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't even know there was a backdated claims department. Do you have their number?

Sure thing! The number is 1-888-209-8124. But fair warning, it's usually a loooong wait. Good luck!

Heads up, that number is just the regular UI claims line. There's no special backdated claims dept afaik. 🤷♂️

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

How long did it take for them to get someone on the line for you?

It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone. They called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than doing it myself!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down the dates you tried to claim and couldn't. 2. Take screenshots of any error messages you got from the website. 3. Call the UI office ASAP. Be persistent. 4. When you get through, explain the situation calmly and ask about retroactive certification. 5. If the rep can't help, ask to speak with a supervisor. 6. Keep a record of all your calls - date, time, who you spoke with. 7. If phone doesn't work, try reaching out via their social media or email. 8. As a last resort, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes intervene. Remember, stay patient and polite, even if it's frustrating. Good luck!

Have you tried using the online chat feature on the unemployment website? Sometimes it's easier to get through there than on the phone.

I had a similar issue last year. Ended up having to file an appeal. It took forever, but I eventually got my backpay. Don't give up!

An appeal? That sounds intimidating. Was it a complicated process?

It wasn't too bad actually. Just had to fill out a form explaining the situation. Took a while to process tho.

This! Also, try calling on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Mondays are usually crazy busy.
