NY unemployment phones already jammed at 8:02 - how is this possible?

This is absolutely ridiculous! I started calling ny unemployment right at 7:55am - literally 5 minutes before they officially open. I figured I'd be one of the first callers in the queue. When the system finally connected at 8:02am, I got that stupid automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume and to try again later! How can they be swamped with calls when they literally just opened? I've tried calling back 7 times already and keep getting the same message. Do people have auto-dialers or something? I've been trying to sort out this payment issue for 3 weeks and can never get through. The website is no help because my particular issue needs a human. Is anyone else dealing with this total garbage? Any tricks to actually get through to a human being?

welcome to the club. i've been calling since january. tried all the tricks - calling at opening, calling at lunch, calling 30 mins before close. nothing works. the system is a complete joke 🤡

After weeks of the same frustration, I found a service that actually worked. I used Claimyr.com and it was honestly a game changer. They called for me, stayed on hold, then connected me with an agent when one was available. First time talking to a human in a month and got my issue fixed in one call. Saved me so much time and stress - talking to that agent got my payments moving again within 24 hours. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds too good to be true... is this actually real or just another scam targeting desperate people?

0 coins

Not a scam at all. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for weeks. They don't ask for any personal info - they just call and wait on hold for you, then connect the call when a real person picks up. Beats me wasting hours listening to that hold music.

wait I saw someone else mention this service in another thread... might actually try it cuz I'm at my wit's end with this system

0 coins

Do it! It was the best decision I made after banging my head against the wall for weeks. The relief of actually talking to someone who could help was worth every penny.

another day, another miracle solution to the unemployment system... *yawn* 🙄

0 coins

Listen, I get the skepticism. I felt the same way. But when you've been trying for weeks with no luck, sometimes you gotta try something different. All I know is it worked for me.

The system is clearly broken. But to answer your actual question - yes, many people DO use auto-dialers. Some ppl also have multiple phones going at once. Plus the staff is probably reduced because of budget cuts. Perfect storm of suck.

0 coins

Thats absolutely ridiculous. How are regular people supposed to compete with that? So frustrating.

0 coins

We're not. The system is designed to make us give up. Keep fighting though - squeaky wheel gets the grease eventually.

0 coins

LOL I don't think they're actually open at 8. I think the message system turns on but the agents don't actually start taking calls until like 8:30 or 9. They're just collecting our calls in a queue and slowly working through them all day.

my friend works for ny unemployment (not phones thank god) and says they have a morning briefing before they start taking calls so this is 100% true

I managed to get through last week after 3 weeks of trying. Here's what worked for me: First, don't call right at opening. Everyone does that. Try around 10:30am or 2:15pm - those seemed to be less busy times. Second, when you call and get the menu options, try different pathways. Sometimes certain departments have shorter wait times and can transfer you. Third, if all else fails, I highly recommend using Claimyr.com. I was skeptical, but it actually worked. They basically call for you, wait on hold, and then connect you when a human answers. Saved me hours of frustration and my claim got processed right away once I talked to someone. Fourth, try calling your state representative's office. Sometimes they can intervene on your behalf. Don't give up! The system is designed to be frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

the state rep thing actually works - my assembly person's office helped me when i was stuck for 2 months

0 coins

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the 10:30 time tomorrow. Never thought about trying different departments - that's smart.

I know this sounds crazy but have you tried the spanish line? I'm not a spanish speaker but I got through faster and then just asked for english help when someone answered. Still had to wait 45 mins on hold but at least I got in the queue.

0 coins

i did this too! felt kinda bad about it tbh but was desperate after 2 weeks of calling

0 coins

please don't do this if you're not a spanish speaker. those lines are there for people who NEED them because of language barriers.

0 coins

I hear you, but when the regular system is completely broken, people get desperate. blame the system not the people trying to survive.

0 coins

The phone system is totally useless. I finally gave up and went to the actual office in person. Had to wait 3 hours but at least got my issue resolved. If you can physically go there, that's your best bet.

0 coins

which office did you go to? the one near me is appointment only and they're booked 6 weeks out 😫

0 coins

I went to the one downtown. They said appointment only but I just showed up when they opened and acted confused about the appointment thing. They took pity on me lol

try the Claimyr.com service!!!! omg it saved my sanity. i spent two whole weeks trying to get through before using it. the service calls for you and gets you connected to a real person. best money i ever spent considering i was about to lose my apartment without that unemployment money.

not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

0 coins

It's not a hack, it's a legitimate service. They're basically professional line-waiters but for phone calls. They don't need any personal info and they can't fix your claim - they just get you to a human who CAN fix it.

0 coins

I tried it too after seeing it mentioned here. Got a call back with a real agent in about 2 hours. Was shocked it actually worked after wasting so many days trying myself.

0 coins

here's a wild theory: i think they have way fewer staff than they claim and they're lying about being open at 8am. probably half the call center quit during the pandemic and they never replaced them 🤔

0 coins

this is 100% what happened. my cousin used to work there and said they lost like 60% of their staff and never hired replacements

0 coins

I'm convinced most of the calls are just us - the same desperate people calling over and over. Like we're all just stuck in this hellish loop together, creating the very problem we're suffering from 😭

0 coins

Anybody else notice they're suddenly "experiencing high call volume" at EXACTLY 8:01 EVERY DAY? It's almost like... they programmed the system to say that no matter what? 🤡 NY unemployment is gaslighting us all!

0 coins

OMG YES! It's literally the exact same time every single morning! I thought I was the only one who noticed this!

0 coins

conspiracy theory: they want us to give up so they don't have to pay out benefits

0 coins

I've noticed this too! And it's ALWAYS the same recording, like word for word.

0 coins

Don't waste ur time with the phones. Email them through the portal message system and then CALL YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE. I contacted my assemblyman and had a call back from unemployment within 48 hours. The rep offices have special channels.

0 coins

this works but sometimes takes forever. i waited 3 weeks for my state senator's office to help

0 coins

depends on the office i guess. my assembly person was super helpful and got me a callback within 2 days

0 coins

I was in your same position last month. After trying for two weeks straight, I broke down and used claimyr.com - they call unemployment for you and connect you when a real person answers. Was skeptical but it actually worked! They called for 3 hours (glad it wasn't me waiting) and then I got connected to an agent who fixed my issue in 10 minutes. My payments started coming through again the next day.

0 coins

I might have to try this. Getting desperate at this point.

0 coins

Do it! Wish I had done it sooner instead of wasting so much time and getting so stressed out.

0 coins

have u tried sacrificing a goat to the unemployment gods? heard that works better than calling 🐐

0 coins

tried that, they asked the goat to hold for an agent 😂

0 coins

At this point I'm willing to try ANYTHING lol
