How soon can you claim unemployment benefits with NYS Department of Labor?
Lost my job yesterday due to company restructuring and wondering how quick I can get the unemployment process started? My supervisor said I should file right away but I'm not sure if there's a waiting period or if I need to wait until my last paycheck clears. Anyone know the timing for filing with NYS Department of Labor? I have bills due next week and really need to understand the timeline here.

DEFINITELY file ASAP! I made the mistake of waiting two weeks thinking I needed to 'settle things' with my old job first and lost those two weeks of benefits forever. yeah file right away but be prepared for the runaround... NYS Department of Labor system is such a mess, took me forever to even get my account set up properly and then had issues with the weekly claims. just saying dont get your hopes up for smooth sailing
