How much does job attached unemployment pay in NYS - standby benefits calculation?
I'm trying to figure out what I'll get paid on standby unemployment through NYS Department of Labor. My employer laid me off temporarily but says they'll call me back when business picks up in a few months. HR mentioned something about 'job attached' benefits but I have no idea what that actually pays compared to regular unemployment. I made about $52,000 last year working full time. Does anyone know how they calculate standby payments? Is it the same rate as regular UI or different?

Job attached unemployment (standby) pays the same weekly benefit rate as regular unemployment insurance in New York. Your benefit amount is calculated based on your base period wages, typically 26 weeks of your highest quarterly earnings divided by 26. With your $52k salary, you're probably looking at somewhere around $450-500 per week, but you'll need to check your actual base period wages on the NYS Department of Labor website to get the exact amount.

•Thanks! That's actually higher than I expected. Do I still have to do the weekly job search requirements even though my employer plans to call me back?

wait i thought standby was different than regular unemployment? my cousin was on standby last year and she said she didn't have to look for work but got less money

•Your cousin might be thinking of partial unemployment or a different situation. True standby status in NY pays the same rate but you're exempt from job search requirements since you have a definite recall date from your employer.

The NYS Department of Labor system is SO confusing about this stuff. I've been trying to figure out my standby claim for weeks and keep getting different answers when I call. Has anyone actually gotten through to someone who knows what they're talking about? The automated system just keeps transferring me around.

•I had the same problem reaching NYS Department of Labor agents until I found Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to actual humans at the unemployment office. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows exactly how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting hung up on.

•Interesting, I'll definitely check that out. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some real answers about my claim status.

Just want to add that you'll still need to file your weekly claims even on standby status. A lot of people think they don't have to do anything until they get called back to work, but you absolutely have to keep certifying every week or you won't get paid. The only difference is you don't have to provide proof of job search activities since you're attached to your employer.
