How long does it take to get your unemployment check from NYS Department of Labor?
I just filed my first unemployment claim last week and I'm wondering how long it takes to actually receive your check? I've been out of work for almost a month now and really need to know when I can expect some money coming in. My claim status says 'pending' but doesn't give me any timeline. Has anyone recently gone through this process? I'm getting really stressed about paying my rent next week.

For most people, it takes about 2-3 weeks from when you file your initial claim to receive your first payment, assuming there are no issues with your application. You'll need to file your weekly claims during this time too - don't forget to do that every week even while you're waiting for approval.

•Thank you! I've been doing my weekly claims but wasn't sure if that was necessary while it's still pending. Good to know I'm doing it right.

•Did you have any issues with your claim or was it just the normal processing time that took that long? I'm worried mine might get stuck somewhere.

I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when my claim was delayed for weeks. Someone on here recommended claimyr.com and I was able to get connected to an agent the same day. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Turned out there was a simple verification issue holding up my payments that got resolved in one phone call.

•That's interesting - I've never heard of that service before. How does it work exactly? Do they just help you get through the phone lines?

•Yeah basically they handle the calling for you so you don't have to sit on hold for hours. Really saved me a lot of frustration when I couldn't reach anyone the normal way.

The timing really depends on whether your claim goes into adjudication or not. If NYS Department of Labor needs to verify anything about your employment history or reason for separation, it can add several weeks to the process. Most straightforward claims process within 2-3 weeks though.

•How do I know if my claim is in adjudication? My status just says pending but doesn't specify what kind of pending.

Just be patient it takes time!! I know its hard when you need money but rushing won't help. Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims and eventually it will come through.
