How long does NY unemployment last? Any extensions available?
I've been on unemployment for about 3 months now and I'm starting to worry. Does anyone know how long these benefits typically last in New York? Also, if I don't find a job by the time my benefits run out, are there any extensions available? Really need some advice here as I'm not sure what to expect.

I found a way to solve NY unemployment benefits duration concerns, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAthqEyELA0

In NY, regular unemployment benefits usually last up to 26 weeks. After that, it depends on the current economic situation and if any federal extensions are in place. Right now, I don't think there are any extensions available, but that could change. Best to double check with the NYSDOL website for the most up-to-date info.

β’Yeah, this is correct. I just exhausted my benefits after 26 weeks. No extensions rn π

Hey guys, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone at NYSDOL. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

β’$20? That's a rip-off. The unemployment office should be free to contact!

β’I get the skepticism, but it's 100% legit. I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. The $20 was worth it to finally talk to someone and get my issue resolved.

β’How long did you have to wait once they connected you?

β’Not long at all! Maybe 5 minutes? The service does all the waiting for you, then calls when there's an actual person on the line.

Look, here's the deal with NY unemployment: β’ Regular UI benefits last up to 26 weeks β’ After that, it depends on the state's unemployment rate and federal programs β’ Currently, there are no automatic extensions β’ Keep an eye on the NYSDOL website for updates: https://dol.ny.gov/unemployment/unemployment-insurance-benefits β’ If you're struggling to reach someone, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It costs a bit, but it's a lifesaver when you need to talk to an actual human β’ Start job hunting NOW. Don't wait until your benefits are about to run out β’ Consider part-time work or gig jobs to supplement your income β’ Look into job training programs offered by the state β’ If you're really in a bind, reach out to local non-profits or religious organizations for assistance Remember, unemployment is temporary. Use this time to upskill and network. You got this! πͺ

Pro tip: Start looking for work NOW. Don't wait until your benefits are about to run out. The job market is tough and it might take longer than you expect to land something.

Quick question: If I pick up some part-time work, how will that affect my unemployment benefits? Anyone have experience with this?

β’You can work part-time and still collect partial benefits. Just make sure to report your earnings accurately each week. The NYSDOL website has a calculator to help figure out how much you'll get.

Friendly reminder to all my fellow unemployed peeps: Don't forget to set aside money for taxes! Unemployment benefits are taxable income. Learned that the hard way last year π πΈ

Hey Liam! I'm in a similar boat - been on unemployment for about 4 months now. From what I've learned, NY gives you 26 weeks max for regular UI benefits. No extensions right now unfortunately π I'd definitely recommend starting your job search ASAP if you haven't already. The 26 weeks goes by faster than you think! Also, keep checking the NYSDOL website regularly - sometimes they announce new programs or extensions with little notice. One thing that helped me was setting up job alerts on multiple sites and treating job searching like a full-time job itself. Hang in there! πͺ
