DOL disqualified my UI claim for 'no good cause' to quit - need advice ASAP!
My unemployment claim got disqualified because the DOL says I didn't have a good reason for quitting my job. I'm freaking out and don't know what to do. Has anyone dealt with this before? What kind of documentation should I gather to prove I had a good cause? I really need this money and I'm worried they won't believe me.

Ugh, that sucks. I've been there. You need to gather ANY evidence you can that shows why you had to quit. Emails, texts, doctor's notes, whatever. Be ready to explain your situation clearly and calmly when you talk to them. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm worried I don't have enough proof. Do you know if they accept witness statements or anything like that?

Yeah, witness statements can help! Get them in writing if possible. The more official-looking, the better. Maybe even get them notarized if you can.

Witness statements are good but be careful. Make sure they're from credible sources or DOL might dismiss them. I learned that the hard way 😑

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at DOL. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

20 bucks to skip the hold time? Sign me up! 🙌 The DOL phone system is a nightmare

Idk man, paying to talk to a government agency feels wrong. Shouldn't this be free?

I get where you're coming from, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste a whole day on hold. To each their own tho

Here's what you need to know about 'good cause' for quitting in NY: 1. Health and safety reasons are usually accepted 2. Significant changes to your job duties or pay can qualify 3. Harassment or discrimination are valid reasons 4. Family emergencies might be considered Make sure you have documentation for whatever reason you're claiming. The more evidence, the better your chances. Also, even if they initially disqualify you, you have the right to appeal. Don't give up!

This is super helpful, thank you! My situation falls under #2 - they basically changed my whole job without warning. I'll make sure to gather all the proof I can.

Great info! Quick question - do you know how long the appeal process usually takes? I'm in a similar boat and getting anxious about the wait.

Appeals can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, unfortunately. The system is pretty backed up right now. Hang in there!

lol welcome to the club 🤡 DOL is a joke. They'll find any reason to deny you. Good luck fighting the system

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along or get you more info. Worth a shot!

I hadn't thought of that! Do I just google my local rep and call their office?

Yep, exactly! Just explain your situation and ask if they can help. They often have staff dedicated to constituent services.

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Been fighting with DOL for months. The whole system is broken. Anyone know if there's a class action lawsuit or something we can join?

Not that I know of, but maybe we should start one 😤 This is getting ridiculous

Guys, I know it's frustrating but a lawsuit won't solve anything. Focus on working within the system and providing solid evidence for your case.

Pro tip: Keep a log of EVERY interaction you have with DOL. Date, time, who you talked to, what was said. It'll help if you need to escalate things later.

Smart idea, thanks! I'll start doing that right away.

hey quick question - does anyone know if quitting because of a really toxic work environment counts as 'good cause'? My old boss was a nightmare but idk if that's enough for DOL

It can, but you need to prove it. Document everything - emails, texts, witness accounts. If you reported it to HR, get those records too.

Been there, done that. It's tough to prove unless you have rock-solid evidence. Good luck!
