Don't stress too much about the work search thing. I know people who just apply to random jobs they're not qualified for just to meet the quota. The system is broken anyway.
honestly the whole system is set up to fail people like us. when your benefits run out theyre basically like good luck figure it out yourself. meanwhile cost of living keeps going up but somehow we're supposed to just magically find jobs that dont exist
To answer your earlier question about One-Stop centers - they're part of the workforce development system that works with NYS Department of Labor but they're separate locations. You can find your local center through the NY.gov website. They offer job placement services, skills training, and sometimes emergency assistance programs.
You definitely need to appeal if you have documentation proving you were laid off. NYS Department of Labor sometimes gets incorrect information from employers about the reason for separation. I had a similar issue where I couldn't get through to anyone at the unemployment office to explain the situation. I ended up using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me reach an actual NYS Department of Labor agent to straighten things out. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Made the whole process much easier than trying to call myself.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS RIGGED AGAINST WORKERS!! They'll find any excuse to deny your claim and side with the employer. I got fired for ONE mistake after 5 years of perfect attendance and they still denied me. Had to go through the whole appeal process just to get what I deserved.
Make sure you keep records of everything - your termination letter, any documentation about the attendance issues, witness statements if you have them. The more evidence you can provide during adjudication, the better your chances. Also start your job search immediately because you'll need to show you're actively looking for work.

Both policies were definitely responses to economic hardship but they serve different purposes. Minimum wage sets a floor for what employers must pay, while unemployment insurance provides temporary income replacement when you lose your job. Your UI benefits depend on your work history, not current minimum wage rates.

The whole system is just designed to keep working people down! They make it impossible to understand whether you qualify and then when you do get benefits it's barely enough to survive on anyway.

•I feel you on the frustration but at least there are benefits available. Better than nothing when you lose your job unexpectedly.
