The whole system is such a mess. I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and they keep changing the rules or at least that's how it feels. One week they want one thing, next week it's something else. Just document EVERYTHING and hope for the best.
omg yes i was wondering the same thing!! i thought maybe they were being extra careful about approving claims because of some government policy. but makes sense that its separate
Look, the whole system is designed to discourage people from claiming benefits regardless of what the fed wants. These 'targets' are just politicians playing with numbers while real people struggle to get their rightful benefits. Your 2 week delay is probably just them hoping you'll give up and stop filing.
The whole system is messed up if people on unemployment have to resort to payday loans just to survive. $320 a week is barely anything in New York. I've been there and it's horrible having to choose between keeping your benefits and being able to pay rent.
The whole system is rigged in favor of employers! They can say whatever they want and NYS Department of Labor just believes them. I've seen so many people get screwed over by lying bosses. Document everything but don't get your hopes up too high.

File anyway even if you're not sure! The worst they can say is no and then you can appeal. I thought I wouldn't qualify when I got fired but turned out I was wrong.

UGH the whole system is so frustrating. They fired me for 'attitude problems' which basically meant I asked too many questions about why we weren't following OSHA guidelines. Took FOREVER to get my benefits approved and had to go through an appeal hearing. But I eventually won because my employer couldn't prove actual misconduct.

•Did you have to get a lawyer for the hearing or did you represent yourself?

•I represented myself but prepared really well. Brought all my emails, documentation of the safety issues, and witness statements from coworkers. The hearing officer was pretty fair about it.
