Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. dont forget about people who get fired for stealing or fighting or showing up drunk. thats misconduct and disqualifies you completely. also if you quit to move somewhere else without having a job lined up first
Thanks everyone. Sounds like my issue is probably the base period since I only started working in March. Going to try filing for the alternate base period and see what happens. Wish they made this stuff clearer from the start!
Good luck! Make sure you have all your pay stubs ready when you request the alternate base period. It really does help to have documentation ready.

wait so when ARE federal unemployment taxes due?? I thought it was annual but someone told me quarterly
FUTA taxes are due quarterly if the employer owes more than $500, otherwise annually. But again, this is separate from NYS Department of Labor wage reporting requirements for unemployment claims.
Your employer is probably just trying to delay reporting to avoid paying higher unemployment insurance rates. The federal unemployment tax deadline has NOTHING to do with their obligation to report your wages to NYS Department of Labor for your claim. This is exactly the kind of bureaucratic BS that makes dealing with unemployment so frustrating!
Ugh this is why I hate dealing with all this unemployment stuff. Too many different agencies and deadlines to keep track of.

THE WHOLE NYS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SYSTEM IS A MESS!! I've been waiting 3 weeks for payments that show as 'paid' and nobody can explain where the money actually went. They act like once it says paid on their end that's the end of their responsibility but what good is that if we never receive it???
I feel your frustration but getting angry won't help solve the payment issue. Focus on the practical steps to track down where the money went.
Same thing happened to my cousin last month. She had to file a payment inquiry through the my.ny.gov portal under the 'contact us' section. Took about a week but they eventually found that her payments were being sent to an old account that got closed. They were able to reissue everything once she updated her banking info. Definitely start with checking if your bank account is still active and accepting deposits.

The whole system is a mess when unemployment spikes. Last time this happened in 2020 people waited months for payments. At least now it's just a few extra days instead of weeks or months.

Yeah but when unemployment is low they also cut staff at NYS Department of Labor thinking they don't need as many people. Then when things get bad again they're understaffed and everything falls apart. It's a cycle.
