Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. omg this is giving me flashbacks to when I filed 3 years ago... the stress of not knowing if you'll get approved is the worst part. at least now you can do everything online instead of having to mail forms
Here's what nobody tells you - even after you're approved, payments can still get held up for random verification requests. NYS Department of Labor might ask you to prove your identity, verify your work history, or confirm your job search activities. Always respond immediately to any requests or your benefits will be suspended. Also, keep in mind that unemployment benefits are taxable income, so you can choose to have taxes withheld or pay them later when you file your tax return. The maximum weekly benefit amount in New York is currently $504, but most people get less depending on their previous wages.
I had no idea about the tax thing! Should I definitely have them withhold taxes or is it better to pay later?

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! They make you jump through hoops for benefits you already paid into through taxes. Three job searches a week but half the jobs posted are fake or already filled. And don't even get me started on how long adjudication takes when they decide to "investigate" your claim for no reason.
seriously though the job search thing is ridiculous when there aren't even that many real jobs out there
If you accidentally don't report income, contact the NYS Department of Labor immediately to correct it. Small oversights can usually be fixed without penalties if you're proactive about it. The key is being honest and transparent with all your reporting. Also remember you have appeal rights if any decisions don't seem correct.

wait so if you get fired you can still get unemployment? i thought only people who got laid off could get it
It depends on the reason for termination. Laid off or fired for non-misconduct reasons usually qualify. Fired for misconduct usually doesn't. NYS Department of Labor makes the final determination during their investigation.
