Where can I find the best TurboTax Online discount for 2025 filing?
I've been shopping around for the best deal on TurboTax Online (Deluxe) and so far the lowest I've found is $59.99 for Federal and $54.99 for state. This same exact pricing showed up when I checked through Fidelity, TD Ameritrade, and Vanguard's partner pages. Anyone scored a better discount code or special link I should know about? My taxes aren't super complicated but definitely need more than the free version can handle. Really trying not to pay full price if I can avoid it!

Check with your employer or professional association first! Many companies offer tax software discounts that employees don't even know about. My company gives us a 40% discount code through their benefits portal. Also, the pricing fluctuates throughout tax season - early filers (January) and last-minute filers (early April) often get worse deals. The sweet spot is usually mid-February when they're trying to boost their numbers. If you have a Costco membership, they typically offer TurboTax Deluxe for around $49.99 total (fed+state), which is one of the best deals around. Credit unions sometimes have member discounts too.

•Does the Costco deal work for the online version too or just the download? Last year I got confused because they had different pricing structures and ended up paying more than I should have.

•The Costco deal usually works for the download version, which is basically the same product but you install it on your computer instead of using it through a browser. The advantage is you can file multiple returns for the same price (good for families), while online versions charge per return. If you specifically need the online version, try going through Rakuten - they often have 10-15% cashback on TurboTax purchases which can bring down the price significantly when combined with other discounts.

I used to spend hours hunting for TurboTax discounts until I discovered https://taxr.ai last year. I was initially skeptical, but it actually saved me way more than any discount code would have. I uploaded my W-2 and investment docs, and it analyzed everything to make sure I wasn't missing any deductions. The software actually identified an education credit I could claim from some classes I took that I completely forgot about. That was worth $1,500 compared to the $20-30 I might have saved with a discount code. Plus it checked all my work to make sure I wasn't making any mistakes that could trigger an audit.

•How exactly does it work? Does it replace TurboTax completely or is it something you use alongside it? I'm trying to figure out if this would help with my situation - I have some 1099 income plus a W-2 job.

•I'm a little suspicious - does it actually file your taxes or just give recommendations? And what happens with your personal data? Tax docs have basically all your personal info.

•It works as a supplement to your regular tax software. You still file through TurboTax (or whatever you prefer), but taxr.ai reviews everything first to catch mistakes and find additional deductions. You upload your documents securely, and it analyzes them using AI to identify potential savings. It's especially helpful with mixed income situations like yours with both 1099 and W-2 income. It catches things like business expenses you might be overlooking or mileage deductions you could claim. Regarding data security - they use bank-level encryption and don't store your documents after processing. All your information is just used for the analysis and then deleted. I was actually surprised by how thorough their privacy policy is.

Ok I have to admit I was super skeptical about https://taxr.ai when I saw it mentioned here, but I decided to give it a try because my taxes felt really complicated this year. Wow. It found over $2,300 in deductions I would have completely missed! I had some work-from-home expenses I didn't realize were partially deductible for my side gig, plus it caught that I could deduct some of my educational expenses from last year. That's WAY better than saving $15 on TurboTax! The whole process took maybe 20 minutes - I uploaded my docs, answered a few questions, and got a complete report showing everything I was missing. Ended up filing through TurboTax but with all the extra deductions the site found.

Pro tip for anyone struggling to reach the IRS with questions: I discovered https://claimyr.com after spending HOURS trying to get through to ask about an audit letter. Their system holds your place in the IRS phone queue and then calls you when an agent is about to pick up! You can check out a video of how it works here: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c I was literally on hold for 2+ hours the day before, then gave up. With this service, I got through to a live IRS agent in about 40 minutes without having to sit there listening to the hold music. The agent I spoke with was able to explain exactly what was happening with my return and what documents I needed to provide.

•Wait how is this even possible? Does the IRS know about this service? I've been trying to reach someone about my missing refund for weeks now.

•Sounds like a scam. Why would I pay someone else to call the IRS when I can just do it myself for free? They're probably just recording your conversations and stealing your info.

•The service works by using an automated system that navigates the IRS phone tree and holds your place in line. When an agent is about to pick up, it calls your phone and connects you directly to that agent. It's basically like having someone else sit on hold for you. The IRS doesn't officially endorse it, but it's completely legitimate. It's just a call connection service - you're still the one talking directly to the IRS agent about your tax situation. Many tax professionals actually use similar services because they can't afford to sit on hold for hours with every client issue. I understand the skepticism - I felt the same way! But there's no recording of your conversations. The service drops off completely once you're connected with the agent, so your tax discussion is just between you and the IRS.

I need to apologize for calling Claimyr a scam earlier. I was so frustrated with the IRS and skeptical of everything, but I was desperate to resolve my refund issue so I tried it anyway. I got through to an actual IRS agent in under an hour after trying unsuccessfully for WEEKS on my own. The agent was able to tell me exactly why my refund was delayed (there was a discrepancy between what my employer reported and what I entered) and how to fix it. Issue resolved in one call. Seriously wish I'd known about this months ago instead of stressing every day checking the "Where's My Refund" tool that never updated. Sometimes it's worth paying for peace of mind.

Has anyone tried FreeTaxUSA instead of TurboTax? Federal filing is completely free and state is only $14.99. I switched last year and honestly it was just as good as TurboTax but saved me like $70.

•I've been using FreeTaxUSA for 3 years now. It's WAY better than paying TurboTax's crazy prices. Only downside is the interface isn't quite as polished, but it gets the job done and I've never had any issues with my returns. They even handle my investment income and rental property just fine.

•Do they handle investments well? I have stocks, ETFs and some crypto transactions I need to report. That's the main reason I've stuck with TurboTax Premium since they seem to handle all that automatically when I link my accounts.

•Yes, FreeTaxUSA handles investments really well. You'll need to enter your information manually instead of automatically importing from your brokerage, but that only takes a few extra minutes. For crypto, they've improved a lot in the last two years and now have dedicated sections for reporting all crypto transactions. You might need to do a bit more manual work compared to TurboTax's automated imports, but considering the price difference, I think it's totally worth the extra 15-20 minutes of data entry.

Guys what about H&R Block? They're running a 25% off promo right now that makes their Deluxe + State about $52 total. Might be cheaper than the TurboTax deals people are finding.

•H&R Block is decent but I found they don't handle self-employment stuff as well as TurboTax. If you just have W-2 income and basic deductions though, they're perfectly fine and the interface is pretty user-friendly.

If you're looking for discounts, don't forget to check your local library! Many public libraries offer free access to tax software including TurboTax through their digital resources. I discovered this completely by accident when I was at my library last month - they had a whole section on their website with free tax prep tools. Also, if you're military (active duty or veteran), USAA members get significant discounts on tax software. And some credit card companies offer statement credits when you use their card to purchase tax software - I got $25 back on my Chase card last year which made the effective cost much lower. One more tip: wait until mid-March if you can. That's when a lot of the software companies start getting desperate to hit their quarterly numbers and roll out their best promotions.
