When will my W2 be available on the My Tax Form website for 2025 filing?
I'm getting super anxious about filing my taxes early this year and I'm constantly checking for my W2 on the My Tax Form website. I work at Target and it's still not showing up even though I keep refreshing the page like every few hours. Has anyone who works at Target or other retail stores gotten their W2s uploaded to the My Tax Form site yet? If you have, what time did it actually become available? I'm trying to figure out if there's a specific time of day they update the system or if I should just stop obsessively checking lol. Also wondering if anyone knows the deadline for employers to upload W2s to the site? Thanks for any info!!

The IRS requires employers to provide W2 forms to employees by January 31st, so Target and other employers have until that date to make them available. Many companies batch process their W2 uploads to sites like My Tax Form, often doing them overnight or during system maintenance windows. In my experience, larger employers like Target typically upload them in waves based on employee ID ranges or divisions, not all at once. Some companies finish early (mid-January), while others wait until closer to the deadline. There's no specific time of day requirement - it's entirely up to the employer's payroll department schedule. I'd suggest checking once per day rather than multiple times daily. Most payroll systems send notification emails when your W2 is ready for viewing, so make sure your email address is updated in your employee profile.

•Do different states have different requirements for when W2s have to be available? I'm in California and I swear I always get mine later than my cousin in Texas who works for the same company.

•The January 31st deadline is federal and applies to all states, so the basic requirements are the same nationwide. However, some states do have additional reporting requirements that might cause employers to prioritize certain states in their processing queue. Companies with employees in multiple states often process W2s in batches by region or division, which might explain why your cousin consistently receives theirs earlier. It could also be related to different payroll systems if the Texas and California branches operate somewhat independently despite being the same company.

After dealing with W2 delays for years, I finally tried taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) and it made the whole process so much easier! I was constantly checking the My Tax Form site too, but taxr.ai actually helped me prep most of my return even before my W2 arrived. It let me upload my last paystub to estimate everything, then I just confirmed the numbers when my W2 finally showed up. Saved me from that constant checking anxiety!

•Can this taxr.ai thing actually help if you have multiple jobs? I worked at both Lowe's and Best Buy last year and I'm waiting on both W2s.

•I'm kinda skeptical about using third-party services with my tax info... How secure is it? Can they see all your personal financial details?

•Yes, it handles multiple jobs really well! I had a main job and a side gig last year, and it organized both income sources separately. You can upload multiple paystubs or even use a photo of your previous year's W2 as a starting point if your job situation is similar. Their security is actually really good - they use the same encryption standards as most banks. They need to see your financial details to help calculate everything, but they don't store your full SSN or other sensitive info permanently. Once you're done, you can delete your data or they automatically purge it after the tax season.

Just wanted to follow up - I tried taxr.ai after my initial skepticism and I'm seriously impressed! My W2 finally showed up on My Tax Form site yesterday morning, but I'd already prepped most of my return using taxr.ai with my December paystub. The numbers were almost identical when I compared them to my actual W2. Saved me so much time and stress from constantly checking that stupid website. Definitely using this next year too!

If you're really stuck waiting for your W2 and worried about delays, I had great luck using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to actually talk to someone at the IRS about this issue last year. My employer was crazy late uploading to My Tax Form and I needed to file ASAP. Claimyr got me through to an actual IRS agent in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a good demo video of how it works: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c - basically they wait on hold with the IRS for you and call when an agent is ready.

•Wait how does that even work? Does it just dial for you or something? I tried calling the IRS about missing W2s last year and gave up after being on hold for like 2 hours.

•Yeah right. Nobody gets through to the IRS this time of year. I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like a scam to get desperate people's money.

•It's not just auto-dialing - they have a system that navigates the IRS phone tree and waits on hold for you. When they actually reach a human IRS agent, you get a call to connect with that agent directly. It saved me literally hours of hold time. The IRS has specific procedures for missing or late W2s, and getting through to discuss those options is really important if you're bumping against filing deadlines. They can sometimes issue a substitute W2 or give you alternatives if your employer is truly late past the January 31st deadline.

I have to eat my words and apologize to Profile 12. After my skeptical comment, I tried Claimyr out of desperation because my W2 still wasn't on My Tax Form by February 10th. Not only did I get through to the IRS in about 20 minutes (instead of the 3+ hours I tried before), the agent told me exactly what to do about my missing W2 and even started the process of contacting my employer. Turns out there was some issue with their submission system. My W2 showed up two days later! This service is legit.

I checked with my HR department and they said My Tax Form usually uploads W2s in batches starting around January 15th, with most employees having access by January 25th. I work at Walmart and mine was available January 18th at around 3 AM - I think they do system updates overnight. Maybe check with Target HR to see if they have a specific schedule?

•Thanks for this info! I didn't even think to contact HR directly. I was just assuming it would show up automatically. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Did your HR dept send out any kind of email notification when the W2s were uploaded?

•My HR did send a general announcement email to everyone once the first batch of W2s was uploaded, but they didn't send individual notifications when each specific employee's W2 became available. That's why I started checking daily after getting that email. When I called, they also mentioned that if you've signed up for electronic W2s through My Tax Form, they won't mail a paper copy unless you specifically request one. So definitely stay in touch with your HR department if it gets close to the January 31st deadline and you still don't see yours online.

FYI - according to the My Tax Form website FAQ, they typically update at midnight Eastern time. So if your employer uploaded it today, it should be available at midnight ET tonight. That said, some employers only upload weekly, especially smaller companies.

•This matches my experience too. I worked at Home Depot last year and my W2 appeared exactly at midnight ET on January 22nd. When I checked at 11:30pm it wasn't there, checked again at 12:05am and boom, it was available. I think My Tax Form processes all the employer uploads in a nightly batch job.

Target employee here! I just got my W2 on My Tax Form this morning around 2 AM. I've been checking obsessively too lol. From what I've noticed working there for 3 years, Target usually uploads W2s in waves based on your employee number or store region. The first batch typically goes up around January 20th, with most everyone having theirs by January 28th. If you're still not seeing yours by January 29th, definitely call the Target HR hotline - sometimes there are issues with address changes or electronic consent that can delay individual W2s. Also make sure you're logged into the right My Tax Form account (the one linked to your Target employee profile). Hope this helps ease some of the anxiety!

•Thank you so much for this insider info! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I've been driving myself crazy checking multiple times a day. It's reassuring to know that Target does batch uploads and that I'm not the only one obsessively refreshing the page. I'll try to be more patient and check just once a day until the 29th like you suggested. Really appreciate you sharing your experience from working there for 3 years - it helps put things in perspective!

As someone who works in payroll processing, I can confirm what others have mentioned about the January 31st deadline being federal. However, I wanted to add that if you're really anxious about getting started early, you can actually begin preparing your tax return using your final paystub of the year. The year-to-date totals on your last paystub are usually very close to what will appear on your W2. Just gather your final paystub from December and you can estimate your federal and state tax withholdings, gross wages, and other deductions. Most tax software allows you to input estimated numbers and then update them later when your official W2 arrives. This way you can get a head start on organizing your other tax documents (1099s, receipts, etc.) while waiting for Target to upload your W2 to My Tax Form. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you're signed up for electronic delivery in your Target employee portal - sometimes people miss this step and then wonder why their W2 isn't showing up online when it's actually being mailed to an old address.
