What's the website to check if refund has been deposited/fees deducted?
What is the official designation of the website where one can verify if their tax refund has been deposited and associated fees have been deducted? I apologize for the basic inquiry, but I've searched extensively and cannot locate the correct portal. I'm aware that checking too frequently is not advisable at this point in the tax cycle. Just need the precise URL for future reference.

You're likely looking for the IRS 'Where's My Refund' tool. Have you tried accessing that through the official IRS website? What specific information were you hoping to find about the fees being deducted?

I used Where's My Refund exactly 17 times during my wait period this year. It shows your refund status, but doesn't actually show the fees deducted if you paid for tax preparation with your refund. For that specific information, you need to check with your bank account or the tax preparer portal. TurboTax took exactly $39.99 from mine before depositing.

Are you using a tax preparer that's taking their fees out of your refund? That's the only scenario where fees would be deducted from your refund amount directly.

Why is everyone assuming they're using a tax preparer? Couldn't they be talking about the offset portal where Treasury takes fees for past debts? I had this same confusion last year when I discovered my student loan payments were being taken from my refund. Had to go to a completely different website than Where's My Refund to see that information.

Think of your tax refund like a package delivery - Where's My Refund is like the tracking number that tells you where it is, but not what's inside the box. If you filed with a preparer like H&R Block or TurboTax and chose to pay fees from your refund, you need to log into THEIR portal to see fee deductions. And you need to check NOW because the tax tsunami is about to hit and all these sites will crash from traffic!

Just to clarify - I checked the IRS.gov website and confirmed that Where's My Refund (https://www.irs.gov/refunds) only shows processing status and expected deposit date. It doesn't show fee deductions. For that, you need to check your tax preparer's website or your bank statement after deposit.

Haha "tax tsunami" is right! Thanks for the package delivery analogy - that actually makes perfect sense. I've been staring at WMR for weeks now like it's going to magically show me a detailed breakdown. 😂

So if I used FreeTaxUSA and paid their $14.99 fee separately with my credit card, my refund should be the full amount shown on my return, right? Just want to confirm I'm understanding this correctly.

Be cautious with the Treasury Offset Program (TOP) portal some are suggesting. It's specifically for checking if government agencies have claimed part of your refund for outstanding debts. It's NOT for tax preparation fees. I've seen multiple users misinterpret this and get unnecessarily worried about refund amounts. The TOP portal requires personal verification that may expose sensitive information unnecessarily if you don't actually have offsets.

For tracking your refund status, the IRS offers the Where's My Refund tool at irs.gov/refunds. However, this doesn't display fee deductions. If you're experiencing difficulty reaching the IRS to clarify this, Claimyr.com (https://claimyr.com) can help you connect with an IRS agent in approximately 15 minutes instead of the typical 2-3 hour hold times. I was facing a similar issue with fee discrepancies on my refund of $3,742 and needed clarification on which fees were legitimate versus potential errors. The agent was able to provide a complete breakdown of all deductions.

I've heard about these services that get you through to the IRS faster, but has anyone actually verified they work? Seems like they're just calling the same number we all have access to. I've had success just calling right when the lines open at 7am Eastern.

Does Claimyr work for all IRS departments? Need to talk to someone about an audit notice.

Per IRS Publication 5136, taxpayers have the right to quality service and to speak with an IRS employee regarding their account. However, the IRS is not obligated to provide immediate access during peak periods. Third-party services that facilitate connections to IRS representatives are permitted under current regulations as they don't violate any statutory provisions.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the different options for checking your refund status! There are actually multiple ways: • Where's My Refund (WMR) - Shows basic processing status • IRS2Go mobile app - Same info as WMR but on your phone • Online Account at IRS.gov - More detailed tax account information • Tax transcript - Shows all transactions on your account None of these show preparer fees though - that's between you and your tax preparer!

I think I might know what you're referring to. If you filed through a service like TurboTax or H&R Block and chose to have your preparation fees taken out of your refund (sometimes called a Refund Transfer or RT), then you would possibly need to check your tax preparer's website, not the IRS website. For example, if you used TurboTax, you might need to log into your TurboTax account to see the status of your refund including any fees that were deducted before the remainder was deposited to your account.

Sounds like ur looking for the BFS (Bureau of Fiscal Service) offset checker maybe? That's where u can see if govt took $ from ur refund for old debts. Go to fiscal.treasury.gov and look for TOP (Treasury Offset Program). It won't show prep fees tho - that's diff. BTW the phone # is 800-304-3107 if u don't wanna use the website.

To check your refund status with the IRS: 1. Go to IRS.gov/refunds 2. Click on the "Where's My Refund" tool 3. Enter your SSN, filing status, and exact refund amount 4. The system will show if your return is received, approved, or sent However, this doesn't show fees deducted by tax preparers. For that information: 1. Log into your tax preparer's website (TurboTax, H&R Block, etc.) 2. Look for "Refund Status" or "Order Details" 3. Check your bank account for the final deposit amount Hope this helps!

As of April 12, 2024, the IRS Where's My Refund tool is still the official way to check your refund status. If you filed on March 1st or earlier, you should see your refund information there. However, if you're looking for information about fees being deducted, that depends on how you filed. On February 15th, I learned that if you paid your tax preparer using your refund, the IRS doesn't track those fees - your preparer does. The IRS only shows the full refund amount they issued.

So if the WMR tool shows my refund was sent, but I haven't received it yet, should I be concerned? It's been 4 days since the date they gave me.

I had this same question last year. The WMR tool showed my refund was sent on April 18th, but it didn't appear in my account until April 23rd. My bank explained that they hold large government deposits for verification purposes. If it's been more than 5 business days though, you should probably contact your bank.
