Does anyone know the correct number to talk to a live person about our tax situation? I called (800) 830-5084 as recommended, but the automated system keeps saying the call volume is too high and disconnects. My spouse and I have been waiting for a specific letter for 2 months now regarding our joint filing status. I've tried calling at different times of day (early morning, mid-afternoon, right before closing) but keep getting the same message. Is there a different number I should be using? Or a specific extension? What time of day has worked for others? I need to resolve this before we file our Q2 estimated payments.

The main IRS customer service number is actually (800) 829-1040, but honestly does it even matter? They're ALL impossible to get through on. I've been calling for weeks about my missing refund and either get disconnected or put on hold for hours. How are we supposed to resolve issues when we can't even talk to anyone?
