WV Tax Filers with Dependents - Processing Status Check (2024)
West Virginia residents, I'm compiling processing timelines for dependent-claiming filers in our state. Anyone from WV with CTC or dependent exemptions receive their refund yet? If so, please share your e-file date and refund disbursement date. I'm noticing potential regional processing differentials between IRS service centers handling our returns. Trying to help our community understand realistic timeframes so we can properly advocate if there are systemic delays.

WV filer here w/ 2 dependents. E-filed on Feb 2nd, got my DD on Feb 20th. Was surprised it came thru so fast tbh. Had both CTC and EITC claims. My transcript updated about 5 days b4 the $ hit my acct. Noticed WV seems to be processing faster than some other states this yr, esp compared to OH and KY neighbors I've talked to. YMMV tho - depends on complexity of ur return.

I also filed on February 2nd with one dependent, but I'm still waiting... My transcript shows processing date of March 11, but nothing has been deposited yet. Getting a bit concerned as I have bills coming due soon that I was counting on this refund for.

Did you have any other credits besides the CTC? I claimed both CTC and education credits and I'm wondering if that's slowing mine down? I'm so stressed waiting!! 😫

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1.3, processing time for returns with refundable credits can extend 4-6 weeks beyond standard processing timeframes. Many WV filers are experiencing delays due to increased verification procedures. When I couldn't get answers through normal channels, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to reach an IRS agent directly. They confirmed my return was selected for additional verification due to dependent claims, but wasn't in audit status. Without Claimyr, I would have spent days trying to get through on the IRS phone lines. I remain cautious about projected timelines, but at least now I understand the reason for my delay.

I filed on January 29, 2024 (first day possible) with three dependents claiming CTC. My refund was deposited on February 27, 2024. My brother-in-law in WV filed on February 15, 2024 and received his refund on March 18, 2024. Has anyone who filed in early March received theirs yet? Trying to establish if there's a pattern to processing times for our state.

Did you have any PATH Act credits on your return? I filed March 2nd with EITC and CTC and still nothing. Wondering if that's causing the holdup?

Thank you for the specific dates! This helps track the pattern. I filed February 10th and received mine March 14th. Exactly 33 days which matches the current processing average.

I had a similar experience to your brother-in-law. Filed February 12th and got my refund March 15th. Last year it took almost 6 weeks, so this was actually faster than I expected!

Still waiting on mine! Filed February 8th and WMR still shows: • First bar only • No refund date provided • No explanation for delay • Transcript shows processing code but no 846 deposit date This is ridiculous! 🤬

I tracked 37 WV filers in my extended family and social network this season. The average processing time was 24.3 days for simple returns and 31.7 days for returns with dependents. Earliest refund was received in exactly 15 days after filing (filed 1/31, received 2/15). Latest was 42 days (filed 2/5, received 3/18). 89.2% of filers received their refunds within the 21-day guideline the IRS provides. The remaining 10.8% had either verification holds or complex situations with multiple schedules.

I got my refund last week after a month of waiting. WV filer with 2 kids. What helped me most was using taxr.ai to decode my transcript. It showed me exactly why my refund was delayed (verification hold) and predicted my deposit date correctly. No more guessing what all those codes meant or when I'd get paid. Just uploaded my transcript and got clear answers. Made the whole process less stressful.

I'm seeing a lot of misinformation about CTC processing for WV filers. The Refund Statute Expiration Date (RSED) and Transaction Code 150 don't necessarily indicate processing completion as some are claiming. My Refund Cycle Date showed a specific disbursement timeline, but the actual deposit occurred 5 business days later due to verification procedures. Be cautious about assuming processing is complete until you see TC 846 with a direct deposit date.

This is exactly right. Too many people misinterpret transcript codes without understanding the full picture. I've seen dozens of cases where people expected refunds based on processing dates only to be disappointed. The TC 846 is the only definitive indicator.

I'm concerned about what I'm seeing with WV processing compared to previous years. In 2023, my return with dependents processed in 18 days. This year, I'm at 37 days and counting. My colleague in Maryland filed the same day with similar credits and received his refund two weeks ago. Another colleague in Pennsylvania filed a week after me and already received hers. This suggests regional disparities in processing efficiency that could disadvantage WV filers if the trend continues into future tax seasons.

Has anyone else noticed that WV filers who claimed exactly two dependents seem to be getting processed faster? Or is that just coincidence in my social circle? And why does the IRS never acknowledge these regional patterns when they clearly exist? Wouldn't it be more transparent to just say 'Hey, if you're in these states, expect X timeframe' instead of the generic '21 days' that rarely applies to anyone with dependents?
