WMR Updated Today - DD Date 3/13 - What Should I Expect?

OMG u guys!! My WMR just updated 2/25 w/ DD date of 3/13!!! šŸ«¶šŸ½šŸ«¶šŸ½šŸ«¶šŸ½šŸ«¶šŸ½šŸ«¶šŸ½šŸ«¶šŸ½ So excited but also confused bc I amended some stuff on my return last min. Does this mean everything's good? Will it actually hit my acct on 3/13 or is that just what they say?? Anyone else get a similar timeline? TIA!!

Natalia Stone

Okay, so your WMR updated with a direct deposit date - that's generally a good sign! The system doesn't usually provide a DD date unless your return has cleared most processing hurdles. Despite your amendments, it seems the IRS has processed everything and approved your refund. Though I've seen cases where the money arrives a day early or (cue dramatic music) up to five days late. The banking system isn't always as precise as we'd hope. Kind of like ordering a pizza in 30 minutes or less - sometimes it's 28 minutes, sometimes it's 45.

Oh thank goodness! I was so worried my amendments would delay everything for months! I've been checking WMR every single day, sometimes twice a day! This is such a relief to hear that a DD date means I'm almost at the finish line! šŸ˜

I've been looking at the IRS processing timelines online, and they claim 21 days for most e-filed returns. But what about amended returns specifically? Doesn't the IRS website say those take 16 weeks or more to process? How is OP getting a DD date so quickly if they amended?

Is the DD date guaranteed? Mine changed once. Still got paid. Just later.

I appreciate this explanation. Having worked with tax systems for years, I agree that a DD date is a strong indicator of final approval. The amendment timing is interesting though - must have been caught early in processing.

Did you amend through your tax software or file a separate 1040X after submitting? It makes a big difference in how the IRS handles it. Think of it like changing your dinner order - if you catch the waiter before they submit it to the kitchen, no problem. If it's already cooking, that's a whole different process.

I had a similar situation on January 17th, 2024. Made a last-minute amendment through my tax software before final submission. Got my DD date exactly 23 days later on February 9th, and the money hit my account right on time. Such a relief after stressing about it for weeks!

This isn't like other amendment situations I've seen. Typically when people file a true 1040X after initial submission, they're looking at months of waiting, not weeks. What OP is describing sounds more like a correction before actual submission, which is treated completely differently than a post-submission amendment.

I've been in this exact position before and learned that even with a DD date, you might still need to contact the IRS if something changes. Last year my status switched from DD date to "being reviewed" just two days before payment. I spent 3 hours trying to get through to the IRS phone line with no luck. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected to an agent in 20 minutes who fixed the issue on the spot. My refund was released that same day! With the March 15 tax deadline approaching, IRS phone lines are going to be absolutely swamped - worth keeping this option in your back pocket if your DD date passes without payment.

Is this service actually legitimate? ā€¢ How much does it cost? ā€¢ Do they need personal information? ā€¢ How exactly does it work to get you through faster?

When I got my DD date last year, the money actually showed up in my account around midnight the day before. Different banks process these deposits at different times. My credit union always posts them early in the morning, but my husband's big national bank sometimes doesn't show the deposit until late afternoon. So don't panic if you don't see it first thing in the morning on the 13th!

Did you check your transcript too or just WMR? Sometimes the transcript will show different codes that might indicate why there was initially a delay. Have you verified all your banking info is correct? You'd be surprised how many people get their DD date but then have issues because of typos in routing or account numbers, wouldn't you?

The WMR DD date is reliable about 95% of the time. Mark your calendar for March 13, but also check March 12 since some banks release funds early. If March 14 comes and you don't have your money, don't panic - call the IRS. The amendment you mentioned likely didn't affect processing time because you made it before final submission. That's different from filing a 1040X after the fact, which takes months to process.

Have you taken these steps to verify everything is in order? 1. Check your tax transcript on IRS.gov to confirm the refund amount 2. Verify your bank account details are correct in your tax return 3. Look for code 846 on your transcript which confirms the refund has been scheduled Did you receive any letters from the IRS after you filed? I'm trying to determine if your amendment was processed as part of your original return or as a separate transaction.
