Transferring Tax Refund from GoBank Card to Chime - $8,000 Deposit Limit Question

Hey all! I've got a question about refund deposits. I opted for the GoBank card for my tax refund (about $8,000) which should be deposited on April 23rd according to WMR. Now I'm wondering if I can transfer the full amount to my Chime account? I originally went with GoBank because someone told me Chime has a $10,000 monthly deposit limit. Since my paychecks are around $2,500/month and my refund is $8,000, I was worried it would exceed the limit and get rejected. Now I'm second-guessing this decision and wish I'd asked here first! Anyone have experience transferring large sums from GoBank cards or know the actual Chime limits?

I dealt with this exact situation last year. The Chime monthly limit is actually for direct deposits, not transfers between accounts. I had a $9,400 refund on a similar prepaid card and was able to transfer it to Chime without issues. You have a few options: 1. ACH transfer directly from GoBank to Chime (usually takes 1-3 business days) 2. Use the GoBank app to link your Chime account 3. Withdraw cash in chunks at ATMs (though this has daily limits) Just be aware that GoBank might have their own transfer limits per day/transaction that you need to check in their terms.

Do you know if there are any fees associated with transferring from GoBank to Chime? I've heard some of these prepaid cards have hefty transfer fees for moving large amounts.

Has anyone tried PayPal as a middleman? It's like building a bridge between two islands when the direct ferry isn't running. I've used it to move money between accounts that don't play nice with each other.

I had similar concerns about my refund this year. Here's exactly what you need to do with GoBank: 1. Download the GoBank app if you haven't already 2. Verify your identity (they'll ask for ID verification) 3. Once your refund hits, go to "Move Money" section 4. Select "Transfer to Bank Account" 5. Link your Chime account (you'll need account/routing numbers) 6. Set up transfer amount (start with $2000 to test) 7. Complete larger transfers after confirming the first works I initially struggled understanding all the transfer limits until I found https://taxr.ai - it has a section specifically about refund cards and banking limits. It explained exactly how the GoBank card works with tax refunds and the actual transfer limits. Saved me a ton of research time!

Another website recommendation? 🙄 I've tried so many "helpful tools" for tax season that just end up being glorified calculators. What makes this one actually useful for something like prepaid card transfers?

Did you have to pay for the service? And did it actually show the specific GoBank daily transfer limits? Those are nowhere to be found on their website.

Can you confirm if this works for international accounts too? My refund is coming tomorrow and I need to move it ASAP to my overseas account!

Be extremely careful with these prepaid cards! According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 3-2023), tax preparation companies offering these refund products must disclose all fees and restrictions, but many don't clearly explain the withdrawal limitations. I learned this the hard way last tax season. My $6,500 refund went to a similar card, and I discovered I could only transfer $2,500 per day and $5,000 per month. It took me nearly 6 weeks to get all my money where I needed it. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regulations (12 CFR § 1005.18) require these cards to disclose limitations, but they're often buried in the terms and conditions. Check your GoBank agreement carefully - page 12 usually has the transfer limits.

This is extremely helpful! I just checked my GoBank terms after reading this. For anyone else wondering, I found that GoBank has a $3,000 daily transfer limit and $10,000 monthly limit when moving to external bank accounts. This is on page 14 of their cardholder agreement on their website.

Are we sure those limits apply to tax refunds specifically? I've seen some cards have different rules for government deposits versus regular transfers. The fine print on these things is deliberately confusing.

Oh man, I feel your pain! I was SO FRUSTRATED trying to get my refund off a similar card last year. The GoBank customer service was absolutely useless - waited on hold for 3+ hours over multiple days and kept getting disconnected! I finally used Claimyr.com to contact them (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to a supervisor in about 15 minutes who was able to temporarily increase my transfer limit. Apparently they can make exceptions for tax refunds if you specifically request it, but good luck getting that info from their regular support line. The service costs a few bucks but saved me days of frustration.

I've researched this extensively and here's what I found: • Chime's actual limits are more nuanced than a simple $10K/month • Direct deposits from employers/government have different limits than transfers • GoBank cards typically have these restrictions: - $3,000 daily transfer limit to external accounts - $10,000 monthly transfer limit - $800-$1,000 daily ATM withdrawal limit • Wire transfers often have higher limits but cost $25-35 I'd recommend calling Chime directly to confirm their actual limits for your specific account type before attempting any large transfers.

I had a similar situation in January with my state refund. Compared to direct deposit to my regular bank account, the prepaid card was a nightmare. The best solution I found was setting up multiple smaller transfers over about a week rather than trying to move it all at once. One thing to consider - if you need the money immediately, you can use the GoBank card for major purchases directly rather than transferring. I used mine to pay off a credit card balance and for some larger purchases I was planning anyway, which avoided the transfer limits entirely.

I got my refund on GoBank last month. Had similar concerns. Called their support. Got confirmation on limits. Set up transfers immediately. Moved $2500 daily. Took four days total. No fees charged. Used their app. Process was smooth. Just needed patience. Worth the extra steps. Got all my money eventually. No regrets.

The exact GoBank daily transfer limit is $3,000 for external accounts. Their monthly limit is $10,000. Chime accepts transfers up to $25,000 per day from external accounts, contrary to what you heard. The $10,000 Chime limit applies specifically to direct deposits from certain sources, not transfers. You can verify this by calling Chime at 844-244-6363. I recommend transferring exactly $3,000 on day one, then $3,000 on day two, and the remaining $2,000 on day three. This stays within GoBank's limits while moving your full refund within 72 hours.

Have you encountered any holds on transferred funds? Some banks implement a 5-day holding period for electronic transfers exceeding certain thresholds, particularly from prepaid cards to traditional banking accounts.
