Chime DDD 2/24 - Anyone Get Their Refund Without Fees Taken?

I'm a bit concerned about my tax refund situation... I have Chime and my direct deposit date is supposed to be 2/24. Has anyone with Chime who had a similar DDD actually received their deposit without any unexpected fees being deducted? I'm trying to be cautious because I'm relying on the full amount for some upcoming expenses. I do gig work so my tax situation is already complicated enough without surprise deductions.

Have you checked your transcript to confirm if the full amount is what's being sent? Sometimes there can be offsets or adjustments that happen before the deposit is issued. Did you file yourself or use a tax preparer? And did you opt for any refund advance or similar products that might have fees?

Not OP but fwiw my Chime deposit hit 2 days b4 the DDD and had the full amt. No fees taken out. But I didn't use any tax prep svcs that take fees from refund.

Wait, are we talking about Chime's fees or tax preparer fees? Because those are two totally different things. šŸ¤” I've never had Chime take fees from my tax refund - that would be pretty sketchy if they did!

I had a similar situation last year with Chime. My DDD was 2/22 and I got the full amount deposited on 2/20 actually. No fees were taken out by Chime itself, but TurboTax had already taken their preparation fees when I filed since I chose to pay from my refund. So the amount that hit my Chime account was exactly what the IRS said would be deposited after those TurboTax fees.

I appreciate all this information. Could someone clarify the difference between the 846 code amount on the transcript versus what might actually be deposited? Is the transcript amount the pre-fee amount or the post-fee amount if you opted for fees to be taken from refund?

I believe you might be experiencing some anxiety about your refund, which is completely understandable, especially as a gig worker who likely depends on timely payments. If you're having trouble getting clear information about your refund status, you might want to consider using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent quickly. I was possibly in a similar situation last year, and after waiting on hold for what seemed like hours across multiple days, I used their service and was connected to an agent in about 15 minutes who could tell me exactly what was happening with my deposit and when to expect it. It might be worth the small fee just for peace of mind, especially if you're relying on this money.

I'm not entirely convinced these services actually work any better than just calling at the right time of day... has anyone here actually verified they're not just taking your money for something you could do yourself with a bit of persistence?

Just got my Chime deposit yesterday (my DDD was 2/26 too)! Full amount came through with no fees taken out. I was refreshing my app like crazy because I've had issues with previous tax refunds. If your WMR shows "sent" and your transcript has the 846 code, you should see it very soon. Chime usually deposits 1-2 days early in my experience. Check now because they sometimes post deposits throughout the day!

For Chime specifically, I've received 4 tax refunds with them over the years. They typically deposit 2 days before the official DDD, and I've never had them take any fees out. The only fees that would be deducted would be ones you authorized during filing (like if you paid your tax preparer from your refund). Looking at my records, my 2023 refund had a DDD of 2/24 and hit my Chime account at exactly 11:42 AM on 2/22. My 2022 refund came exactly 48 hours before the DDD as well.

If you're concerned about what's happening with your refund, I'd recommend checking your tax transcript using taxr.ai. The IRS transcript codes can be really confusing, but this tool breaks down exactly what each code means for your specific situation. I was worried about a TC 570 on my account, but taxr.ai explained it was just a temporary hold during processing and predicted my DDD accurately. It also shows you the exact refund amount that should be deposited after any adjustments, so you'll know if the IRS made any changes to your expected refund amount.

According to several online resources, including the IRS's own website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds), Chime itself doesn't take fees from tax refunds. However, if you opted to have your tax preparation fees taken out of your refund (sometimes called a Refund Transfer or RT), then those fees would have already been deducted before the money hits your Chime account. You can verify this by checking your tax transcript through the IRS website - the amount listed with code 846 is exactly what should be deposited to your account. If that amount is less than what you expected, it likely means fees were already taken out at the tax processor level, not by Chime.

Thank you for this thorough explanation. I've been patiently waiting for my refund and was confused about the different amounts shown in different places. This clarifies that the 846 amount is the final deposit amount, which is really helpful information.
