Transcript Shows Earned Income Credit for 2/24/25 But No Refund Issue Date Yet

Been looking at my transcript and noticed it shows earned income credit with a date of 2/24/25, but there's no refund issue date listed anywhere. Last year when I filed, everything was much clearer on the transcript. Running my small business means I'm always watching cash flow closely, and I really need to know when to expect this refund. Anyone know what this means? I'm so lost trying to interpret these codes compared to previous years.

The date 2/24/25 on your transcript is most likely referring to the cycle date when the Earned Income Credit was processed, not necessarily when you'll receive your refund. It's probably just showing that you qualified for the credit. Your refund could still be in the verification stage, which sometimes takes a bit longer, especially for returns with tax credits like EIC. The IRS might be doing some additional verification before issuing the refund amount.

Is there a specific timeframe after seeing the 2/24/25 date when the refund is typically issued? My transcript showed a similar date exactly 21 days ago, and I'm still waiting for my deposit of $4,327.

This is helpful information! Do you know if there are any other codes we should look for that would indicate the refund is about to be issued? I've been checking my transcript daily and feel like I'm missing something.

Do you have any other codes on your transcript? On January 28th this year, I had the same situation with EIC showing but no refund date. My transcript later updated on February 14th with an 846 code, which is the actual refund issued code. Without seeing your full transcript, it's hard to know exactly where you are in the process.

The Transaction Code 846 is indeed what you want to look for. I've seen this pattern frequently with EIC claims. The system first validates your eligibility for the credit (shown by TC 768 for Earned Income Credit), then processes the refund later with TC 846. The gap between these can be anywhere from 7-21 days depending on verification requirements.

My transcript showed the EIC date first, then exactly 11 days later it updated with the 846 code and my direct deposit hit my account 2 days after that. The 2/24/25 date is just fiscal year notation - it's actually February 24, 2023 in the IRS system, but they use the following year in their internal coding.

Thank you all for explaining this so clearly. I've been staring at my transcript trying to make sense of these dates and codes. The IRS website explanations are so technical that they're almost impossible to understand for regular people like us!

This is normal. EIC processing takes time. Verification happens first. Refund comes later. Could be weeks. IRS phones can confirm status. I used Claimyr.com to reach an agent. Saved hours of hold time. Agent confirmed my EIC was approved but refund was still processing. Worth the call for peace of mind. https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Have you checked if you have any 570 or 971 codes on your transcript? Those usually indicate there's a hold or notice being sent. Without those codes, you're probably just in normal processing and the refund date will show up soon.

According to IRM 21.4.1.3.1.1, the absence of a 570 code is generally a positive indicator that the return is proceeding through normal processing channels without any compliance holds. The standard processing timeframe for returns with EITC as stipulated in the PATH Act requires additional verification measures which can extend processing by 2-3 weeks beyond the standard 21-day timeline.

Has anyone noticed how the IRS seems to speak an entirely different language than the rest of us? 😂 I mean, who puts dates in the future when they mean this year? Is there a section on your transcript labeled "Where's My Refund" or anything that shows processing status?

Think of your tax return like a package moving through a shipping facility. Right now, your package (return) has been accepted and the contents (EIC) have been verified, but it hasn't been loaded onto the delivery truck (refund issued) yet. The 2/24/25 date is just the IRS's quirky way of dating things - it's actually referring to the current processing year. Most EIC returns are taking about 3-4 weeks total this season, so if you've only recently filed, just give it a bit more time before worrying.

I went through this exact same situation last month! The EIC date showing up first is actually a good sign - it means they've verified your eligibility for the credit. From my experience, once you see that date, the 846 refund code typically appears within 10-14 days. I know it's frustrating when you're managing business cash flow, but try not to check your transcript daily (I know, easier said than done!). The system usually updates overnight on Fridays, so checking once a week saves you from the constant stress. Your refund is coming, just hang in there!
