Tax preparer messed up names and address on return - Will wrong info trigger IRS audit?
Got my taxes done by a professional for first time and just noticed they misspelled my name, address, and my dependents names. Called the preparer and they brushed it off saying IRS already accepted everything. How bad is this and will these errors increase my chances of getting audited?

Tax professional here - this is concerning and unprofessional of your preparer. While IRS acceptance just means they received the return, mismatched names/SSNs can definitely cause issues. You should file Form 1040X to correct the information ASAP. The IRS matches names/SSNs with Social Security Administration records, and discrepancies can delay refunds or trigger reviews.

•Currently running about 20+ weeks for amendments. But better to fix it now than deal with bigger headaches later!

Hey instead of waiting months for answers, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and what to do. Its only $1 and WAY better than playing detective. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Your preparer is wrong and lazy. The 'acceptance' just means the return was received, not that everything is correct. File that amendment!

Wow, this is exactly why I'm nervous about using a tax preparer! The fact that they just brushed off your concerns is really unprofessional. I'd definitely listen to Giovanni's advice about filing the 1040X - better safe than sorry. Have you considered switching to a different preparer for next year? This kind of carelessness with basic info like names and addresses would make me lose trust completely.
