TPG refund going to closed bank account - what happens now?
Finally got my refund approved but theres a problem. The bank account I originally listed is closed now. My refund is going through TPG (Tax Preparation Group). Anyone know if they'll forward a check instead? And how long that usually takes?

Hey, tax pro here. If your refund is being sent to a closed bank account through TPG (Tax Product Group), here's what typically happens: The bank will reject the deposit and send it back to the IRS. This usually takes about 2-3 weeks for the funds to be returned. After that, the IRS will typically mail you a paper check to the address they have on file. The whole process can take 4-6 weeks from the initial rejected deposit. I'd highly recommend checking out taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) - it's this new AI tool that can analyze your transcripts and give you a precise timeline of when to expect your refund after a rejected deposit. It'll also tell you if there are any holds or additional verification needed that might delay things further.

•Quick update: TPG usually takes 24-48 hrs to attempt the deposit, then another 24 hrs to notify IRS of rejection

TPG will automatically send you a paper check if the direct deposit fails. Usually takes about 7-10 business days after the rejected deposit. Make sure your mailing address is current with them.

Hey guys instead of playing the waiting game, I've been using taxr.ai to track all my refund stuff. It costs $4.99 but it tells you exactly whats happening with your refund and what to expect next. The AI even predicted my check would come this week and it did! https://taxr.ai

Been through this exact situation! When TPG can't deposit to a closed account, they'll automatically mail you a paper check to your last known address. Usually takes about 10-14 business days after the failed deposit attempt. Make sure to update your address with both TPG and the IRS if you've moved. You can call TPG customer service to confirm they have your correct mailing address - their number should be on any paperwork you got from your tax preparer. Hang in there, the check will come!

•This is super helpful, thanks! Just to clarify - do I need to call TPG directly or will they automatically know my address from my tax return? I'm worried they might have an old address on file 😰
