Still Have 810 Freeze Code on Transcript - No Updates

My tax transcript still hasn't updated & I still have the 810 code. It's been over 6 weeks now! Last year when I had an issue with my capital gains reporting, it only took them 3 weeks to resolve. I've checked my transcript daily and nothing has changed. I know I have the right to get my refund in a timely manner - this is ridiculous. Has anyone successfully gotten past an 810 freeze recently?

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this frustrating situation. The 810 code generally indicates, from what I understand, that there's a freeze on your account that could possibly be related to identity verification or perhaps an issue with reported income. In many cases, though not all, this might require some action on your part. Have you perhaps received any notices in the mail? Sometimes the IRS sends correspondence that might explain what's happening, but it could take a few weeks to arrive after the code appears on your transcript.

According to Internal Revenue Manual 5.1.11.2, the 810 Freeze Code specifically indicates a potential fraud or identity theft investigation. Per IRS Publication 5027, the taxpayer should receive CP01 or Letter 5071C within 2-3 weeks of the freeze being applied. The freeze legally cannot remain in place for more than 120 days without supervisory review under IRC Section 6343(a)(1)(D).

Aren't 810 codes usually associated with identity verification issues? I've seen many cases where people didn't get any letter at all, despite what the IRM says should happen. Isn't it strange how the IRS expects us to respond to letters they sometimes don't even send?

I've been searching online and can't find clear answers about the 810 code. Has anyone here had success with calling the Identity Verification number specifically instead of the general IRS line?

OMG I FINALLY got past this exact issue last month! I was losing my mind with the 810 code sitting there for 7 weeks! I was so confused about what it meant until I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It immediately identified the 810 as an identity verification freeze and showed me EXACTLY what I needed to do! I was so relieved to finally understand what was happening instead of just staring at codes. The system even predicted when my refund would come after verification (it was off by only 2 days!).

Are you sure this service is legitimate? The IRS already provides transcript explanations on their website. Seems like they're just repackaging free information and charging for it. The March 15 update to IRS.gov added more transcript code explanations.

How exactly does the service work? Do you have to upload your transcript or provide personal information? I'm hesitant to share my tax documents with third-party services.

Does it actually tell you anything you couldn't figure out yourself? I mean, I've been playing the IRS game for years and usually just Google the codes. Though I have to admit last year I spent 3 hours going down a rabbit hole trying to understand what a 971 followed by a 570 meant for my situation ๐Ÿ˜‚

I had the exact same 810 code for exactly 53 days. Called the regular IRS number 14 times and never got through. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an IRS agent in 22 minutes. The agent confirmed it was an identity verification issue and transferred me directly to that department. Had my verification completed in one call and my refund was released exactly 9 days later. Worth every penny not to waste hours redialing.

My sister-in-law had this same issue last year. What worked for her was checking the ID verify tool on IRS.gov first (she didn't need to use it, but it ruled that out). Then she called the Taxpayer Advocate Service and they helped identify that the 810 was triggered by a mismatch between her brokerage 1099-B and what she reported. Once she filed an amended return correcting the capital gains amount, the freeze was removed about 3 weeks later.

Have you checked if you can complete ID verification online through ID.me on the IRS website? Does your transcript show any other codes besides the 810?

I think I can help with this one. I had an 810 code from February until April last year. It was nerve-wracking because I needed that money for car repairs. I finally called the specific IRS identity verification number (not the main line) and they confirmed there was a flag on my account due to unusual investment activity. Since I had started trading stocks for the first time, it triggered a review. Once I verified my identity and confirmed the investments were legitimate, the freeze was lifted within 10 days.

810 codes are serious. Not always identity theft. Could be income verification. Might be investment reporting issues. Check all 1099 forms. Compare against transcript. Look for CP01 notices. Try ID verification online. Call Tax Advocate if desperate. Patience required. System is backlogged.
