So I got my 846 code a few days ago. Today I checked my again and now it has the 898 code (which I assume is for state taxes that I owe and have been paying on) question is- even though the have a date of 3-15-2021 I should still get my with the date listed below, right? (3-2-2021

Tax expert here! The 846 code is definitely your federal being issued, while the 898 code shows a state tax offset. Even though the offset codes show 3/15, you should still receive your remaining federal on 3/2 as indicated by the 846 code date. The IRS processes these separately - they'll send your minus any on the 846 date. BTW if you want a really detailed analysis of your transcript and exactly what's happening with timing, delays, and offsets, check out taxr.ai - it's pretty amazing at breaking down all these codes and telling you exactly what to expect.

•its legit! you just upload your transcript and it gives you a super detailed breakdown of everything - timing, delays, codes, etc. way better than trying to figure it out yourself tbh

To all those having trouble reaching a human at the IRS. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/wMf29SmRU-I

Yes, you should still get your on 3/2/2021! The 846 code shows your federal issue date, and the 898 code is just showing the state tax offset that will be deducted from your total amount. The IRS will send you whatever's left after the offset on the 846 date. So if your original was $5000 and the state offset is $1000, you'd get $4000 on 3/2. The different dates just show when each action is processed in their system, but your net should still come on the 846 date.

•This is super helpful! I'm new here and dealing with a similar situation. Just to clarify - does the offset always get processed on the date shown in the 898 code, or could it happen earlier? I'm trying to figure out exactly how much I'll receive and when. Thanks for breaking this down so clearly!
