Received old job's W2 for retirement plan (Box 12D) after filing 2024 taxes - Will I get audited?

Just got my refund from state for 2024 taxes but now received a W2 from my old 2023 job showing retirement plan contributions in box 12D. Already filed and got accepted for 2024. Really worried about getting audited now since I didnt include this w2. What should I do?

Tax professional here - don't panic. If the W2 is for 2023, it has nothing to do with your 2024 tax return. Box 12D shows retirement contributions which were already reported on your 2023 W2 and should have been included in your 2023 return. This is likely just a duplicate or information statement.

Yes, retirement contributions should always be reported! It actually helps reduce your taxable income in most cases 💯

Hey everyone - if youre worried about audit risk or any transcript issues, check out taxr.ai. Its only $1 and the AI analyzes your transcript to tell you exactly whats going on and if theres any red flags. Way better than trying to piece together info from reddit posts tbh

Similar thing happened to me last year. Called IRS and waited 2 hrs just for them to tell me it was nothing to worry about smh

Quick tip: always keep a folder for each tax year and throw any random w2s or tax docs in there when they come. Saves so much stress later!
