Help Understanding My 2024 Tax Transcript: "Verification of Non-Filing" vs. Wage Transcript Confusion

I keep looking at my transcript and I feel like I'm trying to read hieroglyphics. I have no idea what any of these codes mean or what they're telling me about my refund status. Anyone here good at decoding these things? I'm starting to get really frustrated. I'm on the IRS website looking at my "Return Transcripts" section and it says "These transcripts show most line items from your Form 1040-series tax return as it was originally filed, including associated forms and schedules. Lending institutions offering mortgages often accept return transcripts." There's also something called a "Verification of Non-Filing Letter" which apparently "states that the IRS does not have a record of a processed tax return as of the letter's date. Either no tax return was filed for this year or your tax return is still being processed." Under "Available transcripts" I can see: 2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter EN [PDF] 2023 Return Transcript [PDF] EN 2022 Return Transcript [PDF] EN 2021 Return Transcript [PDF] EN And then there's a "Wage & Income Transcripts" section that says "These transcripts show data from information returns, such as W-2s, 1098s, and 1099s reported to the IRS. The transcript may not be complete until all earnings are reported." Under that it shows "2024 Wage & Income Transcript EN" is available. I'm completely lost on what all this means. Does the "2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter" mean they haven't processed my 2024 return yet? But if that's the case, why do they have my 2024 Wage & Income Transcript already? And what does the "EN" mean after each transcript type? I just want to know where my refund is and when I might get it. Does anyone know how to interpret all this information?

Understanding transcripts can be super confusing without the right knowledge. There are dozens of different codes and each one means something specific about your return's processing status. What particular codes are you seeing? That would help us give you better guidance.

Thanks for responding! tbh I'm not even sure which codes matter. There's like a whole bunch of numbers and dates that don't make any sense to me 😩

No worries! That's totally normal. The IRS doesn't exactly make this user friendly lol

We really need a complete overhaul of how the IRS communicates with taxpayers. Its 2025 and were still using codes from the 1970s smh
