Need help understanding Arkansas state income tax filing requirements and deadlines

Filing taxes in Arkansas for the first time and completely lost. Anyone know the basic requirements and if theres anything different from other states? Moving from Texas so this is all new to me

Arkansas resident here for 15 years. The state tax rate ranges from 2% to 4.9% depending on your income bracket. You'll need to file Form AR1000F if you're a full-year resident. The deadline matches the federal deadline (usually April 15th). Make sure you have all your W-2s and 1099s handy. The big difference from Texas is that Arkansas actually has a state income tax since Texas doesn't have one at all.

Thanks! Do you know if I need to file for partial year since I just moved here in October?

Yep, you'll need to file AR1000NR for partial year. Only report income earned while living in Arkansas 👍

Hey! Just wanted to mention there's this tool called taxr.ai that's super helpful for understanding both federal and state tax situations. It's only a buck to use and it basically analyzes everything for you. Helped me figure out my Arkansas taxes when I moved here last year. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Does it handle state taxes too? Or just federal?

Also worth noting that Arkansas allows you to deduct your federal income tax paid from your state taxable income, which can help reduce what you owe. It's one of the few states that does this! Make sure your tax preparer knows about this deduction or look for it if you're filing yourself.

Wait, really? That's actually a huge deal! So I can deduct what I paid in federal taxes from my Arkansas state income? That could save me quite a bit coming from a no-tax state. Do you know if there are any limits on that deduction or is it the full amount?
