Missing Recovery Tax Credit from 2023 - Filed both returns but no payment received
This is regarding the Recovery Tax Credit situation!! I filed my 2022 tax return and 2023 tax return in accordance with Publication 554-B and IRC Section 6428B several months ago, but I never received my first or second recovery payments that were supposed to be distributed in late January 2024???? I've contacted the IRS via their official channels per the instructions in Notice 1444-C, but their representatives refuse to provide substantive information regarding the status of my payments. I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar delays with their recovery credits???? This is extremely frustrating as a homeowner with property tax obligations due soon.

You're dealing with a Recovery Tax Credit issue that requires specific steps to resolve. Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your tax transcripts first. Log into IRS.gov and access your account transcripts for both 2022 and 2023. 2. Look for code 766 with the specific credit amount on your transcript. 3. If you see code 766 but no payment, look for code 971 which indicates a notice was sent. 4. If you claimed the credit on your returns but see no indication of processing, you'll need to contact the IRS directly. 5. Request to speak with the Recovery Credit department specifically. 6. Have your filed returns available when you call - they'll need specific line numbers. 7. If the representative claims the credits were issued, request the exact date and method of payment for tracking purposes.

Wow! I didn't realize there was such a systematic approach to this. โข The transcript codes are especially helpful. โข Never knew about requesting to speak with a specific department. โข Having line numbers ready makes so much sense. This is way more complex than I expected!

Been there, done that, got the frustration t-shirt! ๐ The IRS phone system is basically the final boss in a video game you can't beat. After wasting 3 days trying to reach someone (my phone bill was crying), I finally used Claimyr.com to get through. Saved me hours of hold music that was slowly melting my brain. The agent confirmed my recovery credits were approved but stuck in their processing queue. Worth every penny not to deal with the constant busy signals and disconnects! Here's their link if you're desperate: https://www.claimyr.com

Is this actually legit? The IRS website specifically says they don't endorse third-party services for contacting them. I've seen several references online but I'm hesitant to try anything that isn't official.

I'm curious about how this actually works... does it just keep redialing for you? How much does it cost? Was the agent able to give you an actual timeline for receiving your payment once you got through?

Used this last month when I was freaking out about my refund. Tbh it was pretty good. Got thru in like 25 mins when I'd been trying for DAYS on my own. Agent told me my return was just sitting in a queue waiting for review. Kinda expensive but saved me from going insane w/ the hold music lol

This is extremely useful information. Direct contact with an agent provides immediate clarification. No more guesswork.

Have you verified your eligibility under the current recovery credit parameters? According to the technical specifications outlined in IRS Notice 2023-85, there are specific Adjusted Gross Income thresholds that determine qualification for the full or partial credit amounts. Additionally, the Treasury Department's integrated database systems sometimes experience synchronization delays between tax return processing and credit disbursement modules. Did you receive any correspondence with a CP12 or CP13 notice code? These typically indicate adjustments to claimed credits.

This is exactly what I needed to know. I've been looking for these specific notice codes everywhere!

I just checked my mail from February 15th and found a CP12 notice I completely overlooked! Going to call them immediately before the April 30th deadline they mentioned.

Oh thank goodness someone mentioned these notice codes! I've been so confused about what to look for in my stack of mail. Such a relief to have specific document types to search for!

I had this exact situation with the CP13 notice last year. It showed they reduced my recovery credit by $1,200 because they had record of a partial payment already being made. Had to provide bank statements proving I never received it. Took 8 weeks but eventually got the full amount.

Isn't it interesting how the IRS expects perfect compliance from us, yet they can't manage to track their own payment systems effectively? Have you considered that your payments might have been offset for past debts without proper notification? Could your address information be outdated in their system? Wouldn't it make sense for them to have a dedicated tracking system just for these credits given how many issues people are having?

I was in a similar situation, but way worse than yours. My recovery credits were showing as issued but never arrived, and my transcript had these cryptic codes I couldn't understand. Compared to my experience with student loan offsets, this was a nightmare. Finally found https://taxr.ai which analyzed my transcript and explained exactly what was happening - turns out there was a name mismatch between my tax return and IRS records causing the hold. The transcript analysis showed exactly which codes meant my payment was approved but suspended. Saved me from having to decipher what felt like ancient hieroglyphics on my transcript!

Wait, they can actually interpret those confusing transcript codes? I've been staring at mine for hours and can't make sense of all the numbers and dates. Does it cost a lot? Is it actually accurate?

Man I feel your pain! I was in the EXACT same boat last month. Filed both returns correctly, triple-checked everything, and my recovery credits were nowhere to be found. Finally got through to the IRS after trying for like 3 weeks straight (kept calling at exactly 7:01am) and they told me there was a "processing error" on their end. Apparently my return got flagged because I had moved between filing years. They released the payment after verifying my identity and I got it direct deposited about 9 days later. Hang in there - the system is super backed up right now!

Think of your tax returns and recovery credits like two trains that should arrive at the same station but are running on different tracks. Sometimes one train gets delayed while the other arrives on time. The IRS processing system works similarly - your returns might be fully processed while the recovery credit distribution is handled by a separate department. If you've confirmed eligibility through your transcript, your next step is requesting a payment trace. You'll need Form 3911 - Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund. This initiates an official investigation into the missing payment.

URGENT FOR ANYONE WITH MISSING RECOVERY CREDITS: April 30th is the deadline to file a formal dispute for missing 2023 credits! I went through this exact nightmare last year with my 2022 credits. Called on April 29th and was told if I'd waited one more day, I would have had to wait until next tax season to resolve it. Reference Code 7202-PSE when you call to get to the right department. Don't wait!

Check your bank statements. Sometimes credits appear with different labels. Look for "TREAS" payments. They might be there. Also check if you had tax offsets. Child support? Student loans? Federal debts? These can intercept credits. The BFS handles offsets, not IRS.

Have you verified if the credits were actually approved on your account? When you look at your transcript, do you see exactly $1,400 for the first payment and $600 for the second payment listed as credits? What date does your transcript show for these credits being issued? Have you checked if they were perhaps sent as paper checks to a previous address?
