MD Refunds Starting to Hit - Federal DDD 2/22 (Filed 1/29)

Positive update for anyone tracking refund timelines: My Maryland state refund just updated today and was deposited with Credit Karma at 6:30pm the same evening! Also, while I'm here with some good news - my federal transcripts updated today with DDD 2/22. Filed and accepted 1/29. The cycle seems to be moving efficiently this year despite the usual processing backlog indicators.

Congratulations on your refund progress. Per IRS Publication 1155, the standard processing window is 21 days for e-filed returns without additional review flags. Your timeline (24 days from acceptance to DDD) falls within normal parameters. Maryland state refunds typically process 1-5 business days faster than federal due to their streamlined verification protocols implemented in fiscal year 2023. I'm glad to see your funds arriving as expected.

Did you have any specific credits on your return that might have caused delay? I'm wondering if perhaps you had Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit... sometimes those can extend processing times, but yours seems to have moved along reasonably well.

Good timeline. Faster than many. Some aren't so lucky. Often need intervention. When returns get stuck, calling helps. IRS phone lines are jammed. Wait times exceed 2 hours. Claimyr.com can help. Gets you through IRS phone maze. Connects you with agents quickly. Worth it when transcripts show delays. Saves hours of redial frustration. https://claimyr.com

My Maryland refund hit exactly the same way! Transcript updated at 3:22am with cycle code 20240605, WMR updated at noon, and deposit hit my Chime account at 5:45pm. Federal had a TC570 hold initially but resolved with TC571 and my DDD is also 2/22. The processing algorithm seems to be prioritizing returns with dependent care credits this year - do you have any of those on your return?

Has anyone noticed if Credit Karma deposits are consistently arriving earlier than other banks? I've been tracking the IRS refund discussion threads at r/IRS and it seems like online banks are posting 1-2 days before traditional banks. Can others confirm this pattern?

YES! 100% true in my experience. I have accounts at both BoA and Chime. Last year my federal refund hit Chime a full 36 hours before Bank of America showed it. Same thing for my stimulus payment. Need mine ASAP this year for car repairs so I switched my direct deposit to online-only bank.

Thank you for asking this! I've been wondering the same thing. • Credit Karma - seems to be 1-2 days early based on posts • Chime - consistently 2 days early from what I've seen • Cash App - mixed reports, sometimes early • Traditional banks - almost always on actual DDD Really appreciate everyone sharing their timelines. Makes the waiting more bearable.

What we're seeing is the IRS's batch processing system at work. Think of it like a train schedule - returns get loaded into specific trains that run on set days. Your 1/29 filing date put you in the early February processing cycle, which typically completes mid-to-late February. The Maryland deposit hitting same-day as transcript update is like catching an express connection - sometimes the timing just works out perfectly when state and federal systems are in sync.

Wait so does that mean ppl who filed later might actually get processed faster? Cuz I filed 2/5 and nothin yet. No transcript updates, WMR still on first bar. Thought earlier = faster but sounds like it's more about which "train" you catch?

I appreciate this explanation. I've been worried because I filed on 1/27 and still nothing, while seeing people who filed after me getting their refunds. This makes me think I might have been placed in a different processing batch. I wonder if there's any way to know which batch you're in or if we're just left in the dark until something happens.

While direct deposit is certainly the fastest method, those who selected paper checks should expect an additional 7-10 business days beyond their DDD. Unlike electronic refunds which follow a strict timeline, paper checks can experience postal delays. For comparison, I received my electronic federal refund on the exact DDD last year, but my paper state refund took 12 days beyond the stated processing date.
