Got my refund at 9pm! Early deposit with cycle code 0405 - Capital One 360

Just got my refund at 9pmEST! My transcript updated this morning with a DDD of 3/26, which is pretty quick compared to what I've seen others in my unit dealing with. I was cycle code 0405 if that helps anyone tracking theirs. I didn't have any tax prep fees taken out of my refund since I paid TurboTax upfront. I did spring for their $25 "early deposit" feature though, and unlike most add-ons that never deliver, they actually came through. My deposit hit Capital One 360 Checking tonight. Hoping everyone else gets their deposits SOON! This was way smoother than last year when I was deployed and had to deal with all kinds of verification nonsense.

Congrats on the quick turnaround! Did you file with any credits like EIC or CTC? Those usually take longer in my experience. And when did you originally file? I'm trying to figure out if the cycle codes are following the same pattern as previous years.

I've seen several people with the 0405 cycle code getting deposits this week. In previous years, I noticed the 05 cycle codes typically update on Wednesdays and deposit shortly after. Has anyone else noticed if this pattern is holding true for 2024?

Thanks for asking these questions! Filing dates are like weather forecasts for refunds - they give you a general idea but there's always that unpredictability factor. Really appreciate people tracking these patterns.

Can you clarify what the first two digits in the cycle code (04) represent? I understand the last two (05) indicate weekly processing, but I'm trying to determine if the 04 correlates to processing queue prioritization or another technical aspect of the Master File system.

I think, possibly, the Capital One 360 might be part of why you got it so quickly? I've noticed that some banks seem to process the ACH transfers from the Treasury more efficiently than others, at least in my somewhat limited observation. It might be worth considering for anyone who's possibly thinking about switching banks for next tax season, though I'm not 100% certain it makes a huge difference for everyone.

Does Capital One always release funds early like this? Some banks hold Treasury deposits for a day or two even when they have them. šŸ˜‚ My bank treats my tax refund like it's suspicious money every year!

According to Treasury Regulation 31 CFR Part 210, banks are required to make funds available on the effective date specified in the ACH entry. However, many financial institutions choose to make Treasury direct deposits available earlier as a customer service. Capital One 360 has consistently been one of the banks that releases IRS refunds as soon as they receive the pending notification, rather than waiting for the official settlement date.

The 0405 cycle code is processing exactly on schedule. Your return was processed in the 4th week of the tax season (that's the "04") and on the weekly cycle (that's the "05"). Weekly cycles always update on Wednesday night/Thursday morning and typically deposit 5-7 days after that date. You got yours on the fast end of that timeline. The $25 "early deposit" feature from TurboTax simply means they partner with your bank to release funds as soon as the ACH notification comes through instead of waiting for actual settlement. It's not magic - just banking agreements.

This matches what I saw last year too. I have Navy Federal and they also release funds as soon as they get the notification. Here's what helped me track my refund: 1. Check transcripts for cycle code 2. If it ends in 05, look for Wednesday/Thursday updates 3. Count 5-7 days from that update for likely deposit 4. Check bank for pending deposits each morning This system has worked for me three years in a row now!

If anyone is still waiting on their refund and can't get answers, I highly recommend Claimyr. I waited exactly 47 days with no updates on WMR or transcripts, then used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent in exactly 18 minutes instead of the 2+ hours I spent on redial attempts. The agent confirmed my return was held for verification and released it that same day. My DDD appeared on my transcript exactly 7 days later, and my refund hit my bank exactly 5 days after that. Total time saved: approximately 14-21 days of waiting.

I'm a bit hesitant about using third-party services to contact the IRS. Did you have any concerns about privacy or additional fees? I spent about 3 hours on hold last year and am dreading having to call them again, but I'm always cautious about these kinds of services.

Did they actually connect you directly to an IRS agent or was there some kind of middleman? And was the connection clear? Nothing worse than finally getting through after hours of waiting only to have a call that drops or sounds like you're talking through a tin can!

I'm somewhat hesitant to recommend this, but I've found that checking your account transcript rather than the refund transcript sometimes provides earlier information about your refund status. The account transcript might show pending transactions that haven't yet appeared on the refund transcript, though this isn't always the case for everyone. It's probably worth checking both if you're waiting for updates, just to be thorough.

I was in the EXACT same boat and just got my deposit too! ā€¢ Filed: Feb 12th ā€¢ Cycle code: 0405 ā€¢ WMR updated: Yesterday ā€¢ Bank: Chase ā€¢ Deposit hit: 2 hours ago The key difference is I DIDN'T pay for the early deposit feature and still got it fast. Seems like this batch is just processing quickly regardless of the extra fee.

I'm so happy for you! šŸ˜Š I always recommend setting up direct deposit with a bank that processes early like Capital One or Chime rather than paying extra fees for "early deposit" features. Most of those services just take advantage of the standard ACH processing time that some banks already give you for free. I'm still waiting on mine and feeling a bit anxious since I filed on February 2nd and still nothing showing on my transcript as of this morning.

The community wisdom on cycle codes has been pretty accurate this year. From what I've tracked since January 29th when filing opened, the 05 cycle codes are processing in about 21-28 days from acceptance date, while daily cycle codes (01-04) are taking 30-35 days. Military returns filed from overseas on February 15th seem to be processing faster this year, with many already receiving deposits by March 10th. Your timeline fits the pattern perfectly for a domestic 05 cycle.
