Lost W-2 and employer won't reissue - need help getting wage info for filing

My husbands W-2 never showed up in the mail this year and his employer is being difficult about issuing a new one. I've called them multiple times but they keep giving me the runaround. Really need to file our taxes but stuck without this important document. What are my options for getting this wage information?

You have several options. First, check your last paystub of 2024 - it should have YTD info that matches the W-2. You can also get a Wage and Income Transcript directly from the IRS website or by calling 800-908-9946. If you create an account on IRS.gov, you can download it immediately. Another option is filing Form 4852 (substitute for W-2) using your last paystub info. The employer is actually required by law to provide a W-2 by January 31st, so you could also report them to the IRS.

Thank you! I didn't even think about checking the last paystub. That's super helpful!

careful with the transcript route tho - sometimes it takes forever to get access to your irs account 🙄

Hey, I actually had this exact same issue last month! I used taxr.ai to pull my wage transcripts and it showed me everything I needed plus gave me some great advice about filing Form 4852. Only cost a buck but saved me hours of headache. Really recommend checking it out - https://taxr.ai

interesting... how exactly does this tool work? does it just read transcripts or what?

it actually does way more! uploads your transcript and uses AI to analyze everything - wages, withholding, even tells you if there might be issues with your return. saved me from making some mistakes

just tried it and WOW 🤯 this thing is actually incredible! way better than trying to decode these transcripts myself

Your employer is being shady af. They are literally required by law to give you this. Report them to the department of labor

pro tip: if u have access to ADP or whatever payroll system they use, sometimes u can still login and download old W2s yourself!
