IRS shows 2022 tax return as unprocessed but received twice - What to do?

Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my 2022 tax return. The IRS website shows it as unprocessed, but their log says they've received it twice. I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Filed my 2022 return back in March and it's still showing as unprocessed. Called the IRS multiple times but can't get through. It's so frustrating!

Have you tried checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it has more up-to-date info than the main account page.

Yeah, I've been checking that religiously. Still says 'Your tax return is still being processed.' 🙄

Same here! Its like were stuck in some kind of IRS limbo. Anyone know if theres a way to escalate this?

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? The system is so broken 🤦‍♂️

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait once the call was connected?

Only about 5 minutes! Way better than the hours I spent trying to get through on my own.

Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Double-check all the info on your return. Make sure there are no typos in your SSN, name, address, etc. 2. If everything looks correct, try to get through to the IRS (I know, easier said than done). 3. If you can't reach them by phone, send a written inquiry via certified mail. 4. Check if your state's Taxpayer Advocate Service can help. 5. If all else fails, you might need to file an amended return (Form 1040-X). Remember, the IRS is still dealing with backlogs from the pandemic, so patience is key. Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely go through and double-check everything. Fingers crossed 🤞

Great tips! I'd add that keeping copies of all correspondence and noting dates of calls can be super helpful if things drag on.

Have you considered that it might be identity theft? If the IRS received your return twice, someone else might have filed using your info. Might want to check your credit report just in case.

lol welcome to the wonderful world of IRS incompetence 🤡 been dealing with this nonsense for years

Fr fr. You'd think with all the taxes we pay they could afford some decent computers 🙄

Just a heads up, the IRS recently announced they're still working through a backlog of 2022 returns. They said to expect delays, especially for paper returns. Might be worth checking if your return falls into any of the categories they mentioned as likely to be delayed.

Oh, I hadn't heard about that announcement. Do you have a link where I can read more about it?

Sure thing! Here's the IRS page with the latest updates: [insert link here]. Hope it helps!

Plot twist: what if the IRS is actually run by a bunch of hamsters on wheels? 🐹🎡 Would explain a lot tbh
