IRS says return is 'unpostable' - accepted 1/17, no movement. What does this mean?
My return was accepted on 1/17 and I've had zero movement since then. Called the IRS this morning and they said my return is 'unpostable'. Really need this refund for housing situation and getting super stressed about what this means and how long it'll take to fix.

An unpostable return means there's a technical issue preventing your return from being properly processed in the IRS system. Common reasons include incorrect SSN, name mismatch with SSA records, or duplicate filing. You'll need to wait for a notice from the IRS explaining the specific issue. Usually takes 2-3 weeks to receive it. Once you get the notice, you can address whatever's causing the problem.

•omg thank you for explaining! do you know how long it usually takes to resolve once they send the notice?

•It really depends on the issue tbh. Could be a quick fix if its just verification needed, or several weeks if you need to submit additional docs 😕

Hey, instead of stressing and waiting for answers, try using taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's wrong and how to fix it. It costs $1 but saved me weeks of worry. https://taxr.ai

•100% works! It spotted my unpostable issue was due to a name mismatch and told me exactly what to do. Had my refund 2 weeks later 💯

An unpostable return means there's a technical issue preventing your return from being fully processed in the IRS system. Common reasons include mismatched info with SSA records, previous year return issues, or identity verification needed. You should receive a letter within 2-3 weeks explaining the specific issue. Call the IRS back and ask for the specific unpostable code - that'll tell you exactly what's wrong.

•It really depends on the specific issue, could be 2 weeks to 2 months. Did they give you any unpostable code number?

Pro tip: Check if your employer reported your W2 correctly. My return was unpostable bc my employer put wrong SSN on W2. Such a headache to fix 🤮

Check your mail like a hawk. They usually send a notice explaining what's wrong. Mine was unpostable last year cuz they needed to verify my identity

The IRS is so behind rn its not even funny. My return was unpostable for 3 months last year because they typed my ssn wrong when they entered it 🤮
