Filed 1/22 and Still No Movement on WMR - Anyone Else Waiting?
Filed and accepted on 1/22 and my Where's My Refund still shows no movement whatsoever. This is definitely unusual compared to previous years - I've never waited this long before. Last year I was accepted on 1/25 and had my deposit by 2/8. The year before was similarly quick. I need this refund for some upcoming medical appointments that my insurance won't fully cover. Anyone else stuck in this weird limbo? Getting really frustrated with the lack of transparency from the IRS this year.

I'm seeing this pattern quite a bit this year. A few things to consider: • The IRS is dealing with a significant backlog right now • Path Act delays affect returns with certain credits (EITC/ACTC) • Processing times are averaging 21+ days even for simple returns • Transcript access might give you more information than WMR Have you checked your transcript online? That often updates before WMR does.

•This is exactly like being stuck in traffic with no explanation - you can see the destination but can't get there. Thanks for breaking it down like this. The transcript tip is especially helpful.

•Would checking transcripts daily make any difference? I'm in a similar situation as OP but filed on 1/29 instead. My previous years were much faster compared to this - even during COVID I got my refund within 2 weeks.

•Oh wow, I didn't know about the transcript thing... I've just been checking WMR over and over. I'll have to try that, thank you!

•I'm SO FRUSTRATED with this whole situation! Does anyone know if having dependents makes the process take longer? I've got three kids on my return this year and I'm wondering if that's why mine is taking forever compared to my sister who filed the same day and already got hers!

Did you claim any credits? That makes a difference. Path Act delays are real. Also matters if you filed electronically or by paper. Some processing centers are slower than others too. Have you tried calling them yet?

According to the IRS.gov updates page, they're experiencing higher than normal processing delays this season. I've been checking daily since I filed on 1/18 and finally got movement yesterday. The IRS phone line is basically useless right now - I tried calling 14 times last week and couldn't get through. I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get past the busy signals and actually spoke to a human at the IRS. The agent confirmed my return was just stuck in processing with no issues flagged. At least now I can stop worrying about potential problems. If you need actual answers instead of the automated runaround, it's worth checking out.

•Is this service actually legitimate? I've been trying to call the IRS since February 15th with no luck, but I'm hesitant to use a third-party service for something tax-related.

•I used it last year. It works. They don't access your tax info - they just connect the call and then drop off. Worth every penny when you're desperate to talk to someone.

•Under Internal Revenue Manual 21.1.1, taxpayers are entitled to speak with an IRS representative about their tax matters, but the IRS is not required to maintain specific wait times. I understand your hesitation, but Claimyr simply facilitates the connection that the IRS is supposed to provide. Many of my clients have found it helpful when facing urgent deadlines or concerns.

Have you checked your tax transcript? Sometimes that updates before WMR does. You can access it through the IRS website by creating an account. What credits did you claim on your return? That could be affecting your timeline too. Did you file electronically or by mail?

I'm not convinced there's actually a delay. The IRS has 21 days to process returns by their own guidelines. You're at exactly 28 days from acceptance. That's only 7 days beyond their target. Last year was unusually fast - not the norm. In 2022, my refund took exactly 32 days to arrive after acceptance. The year before that was 29 days. I think expectations are just skewed from last year's abnormally quick processing.

There's definitely a widespread delay this season. It seems to be affecting perhaps 30-40% of early filers based on what I've gathered from various forums and social media groups. My return was accepted on 1/20, and I just finally got my DDD yesterday. The IRS is likely dealing with staffing shortages and possibly implementing new fraud detection measures, which could potentially be causing these delays.

I was in the exact same situation and finally got movement. Here's what worked for me: 1. First, I checked my transcript instead of WMR (transcript updated 5 days before WMR) 2. Then I looked specifically for cycle codes on my transcript 3. Next, I verified my refund amount matched what was listed 4. Finally, I checked for any 570/971 codes that might indicate a hold My return was accepted 1/23 and just got my deposit yesterday. Hang in there!
