IRS says refund sent, bank says nothing received - Where's my money?!
Hey everyone, I'm having a major issue with my tax refund and I'm at my wits end. The IRS says they released my refund over a week ago, but it's nowhere to be found. I've checked with my bank and they don't see anything coming through. I even called the tax prep company I used, and they said everything looks fine on their end. The IRS automated system is useless and I can't get through to a real person. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what to do next?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. Its been almost a month since the IRS said they sent my refund and still nothing. The whole system is broken 😡

•A month?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your local congressman's office? Sometimes they can help with IRS issues.

•No, I haven't thought of that. Good idea, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

•I tried that last year and it actually worked! Took about 2 weeks, but they got things moving for me.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I'm skeptical. How do we know this isn't just some scam?

•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. I was desperate and took a chance. It's not a magic solution, but it did get me through to an actual person at the IRS. Still had to deal with their bureaucracy, but at least I could talk to someone.

Have you checked the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it has more up-to-date info than what you get over the phone.

This happened to me last year. Turns out there was a mixup with my routing number. Double-check all your bank info on your return, even a single digit off can cause major headaches.

•Thanks for the suggestion. I've triple-checked everything and it all looks correct. The tax prep company confirmed this too. It's like my refund just vanished into thin air 😫

•Damn, that sucks. Sounds like you might need to get the Taxpayer Advocate Service involved. They can sometimes help when normal channels fail.

OK, let me break this down for you. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. First, keep checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool daily. Sometimes it updates without notice. 2. If it's been more than 21 days since the IRS accepted your return, you can request a trace on your refund. Call the IRS at 800-829-1040. 3. If you can't get through on the phone (which is likely), try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They're an independent organization within the IRS that can help. 4. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what was said. 5. Check if there are any offsets against your refund. Sometimes the government can take your refund to pay other debts. 6. As a last resort, consider reaching out to your local congressperson's office. They often have liaisons who can work directly with the IRS. Remember, patience is key here. The IRS is notoriously slow, especially this time of year. But keep pushing and you'll get your money eventually!

•Quick question - how do you contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service? Is there a specific number or website?

•You can find your local Taxpayer Advocate Service office here: https://www.irs.gov/advocate/local-taxpayer-advocate. They also have a main line: 1-877-777-4778. Good luck!
