IRS Shows Only "Accepted" While H&R Block Estimates Feb 18 Refund - Which Status Is Accurate After 2 Weeks?

Filed my taxes through H&R Block and the status there shows processing with details but when I check Where's My Refund on IRS website it just says accepted with no date. Its been like this for 2 weeks now and I'm getting concerned. When I look at my H&R Block Refund Tracker (last checked today, 1/31/2025), it shows: - Return e-filed: ✓ - Return accepted: ✓ - Federal refund pending: X The H&R Block tracker says my federal refund is anticipated Tuesday, Feb 18. It also mentions "H&R Block receives updates once per day by 9AM CST" and "No new updates today." But when I go to the IRS Where's My Refund site, it just shows "accepted" with absolutely no date estimate or further details. No processing status, no refund date, nothing. Which status should I trust? The H&R Block one that gives me a specific date (Feb 18) or the IRS one that's just stuck on "accepted"? Has anyone else noticed different information between their tax preparer's tracker and the official IRS Where's My Refund tool? It's been two weeks with this discrepancy and I'm starting to worry.

Tax pro here - always trust the IRS website (WMR) over any third party status. Tax preparers don't have direct access to IRS systems, they're just showing estimated timeframes based on when they transmitted your return.

Same boat here with TurboTax showing different info. Good to know WMR is the source of truth!

Hey everyone! Instead of playing detective between different websites, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. For $1 it analyzes your actual transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund and when to expect it. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

sounds interesting. how accurate is it? does it actually predict dates or just general info?

Super accurate! It reads your actual transcript line by line and explains everything in plain english. Shows exact dates, codes, and even tells you if theres any holdup

The IRS website is slower to update than Internet Explorer running on Windows 95 🤡

Check your transcript if you can access it. That'll give you the most detailed info about whats actually happening with your return.

how do i check my transcript?

Go to irs.gov and create an account. You'll need ID verification but its worth it to see the actual status

Been dealing with this exact same frustration! Filed through TaxAct and their tracker shows one thing while WMR shows another. From what I've learned, the IRS only updates WMR once daily (usually overnight) and sometimes takes longer during peak season. Your H&R Block Feb 18 date is probably just their estimate based on typical processing times, not actual IRS data. The "accepted" status on WMR means they received it and it passed initial screening - now you're waiting for actual processing. Hang in there, 2-3 weeks is pretty normal right now!

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Really helps to know that the H&R Block date is just their estimate. I was starting to think something was wrong with my return. Good to hear 2-3 weeks is normal - I'll try to be more patient 😅

I work at a tax resolution firm and see this confusion all the time. The IRS Where's My Refund tool is the only official source - everything else is just estimates or marketing to keep you engaged with their platform. H&R Block's Feb 18 date is likely based on their internal processing timeline plus a buffer, not actual IRS data. The fact that WMR shows "accepted" is actually good news - it means your return passed all the initial fraud and error checks. Now it's just in the processing queue. During busy season (which we're in), processing can take 2-4 weeks after acceptance. Stay patient and keep checking WMR every few days rather than daily.

This is super helpful info! I had no idea that tax prep companies don't actually have real-time access to IRS systems. Makes total sense now why there would be discrepancies. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain the process - definitely going to stop obsessively checking both sites every day 😂

Just wanted to add my experience here - filed early this year and had the exact same confusion! TurboTax was showing a completely different timeline than the IRS site. What helped me was remembering that these tax software companies are basically just middlemen. Once they submit your return, they have zero special insight into what the IRS is actually doing with it. Their "estimated refund dates" are just calculated guesses based on average processing times from previous years. The IRS WMR tool pulls from their actual database, so even though it's bare bones and updates slowly, it's showing you real status. Your "accepted" status is actually progress - means you cleared the first hurdle and now you're just waiting in line with everyone else. Hang tight!
