IRS Transcript Changed from "Non-Filing" to "No Record of Return Filed" After 3 Weeks - What Does This Mean for My 2024 Return?
My transcript status just changed from non-filing to 'no record of return filed' on my Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS. I checked today (02-18-2025) and got this response when I requested to see ALL_FORMS for the December 2024 tax period. Here's exactly what I received: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 02-18-2025 Response Date: 02-18-2025 Tracking Number: Wage and Income Transcript SSN Provided: XXX-XX-3332 Tax Period Requested: December, 2024 Form Number: ALL_FORMS No record of return filed. This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data The Internal Revenue Service/United States Department of the Treasury response is dated the same day as my request. I'm confused because before this, it showed "non-filing" status, and now it's changed to "no record of return filed" which seems similar but different wording. I submitted my return about 3 weeks ago and was expecting to see some kind of update. Does anyone know what this means and if it's a good sign? Is there a difference between "non-filing" and "no record of return filed"? Really hoping to see some movement on my refund soon as I'm counting on getting it for some important bills coming up. Has anyone else experienced this status change on their transcript? How long after seeing this did your return actually process?

The IRS transcript update for your tax period December 2024 shows a status change that's actually a positive sign for the new tax season. Your tracking number (107478209333) and same-day response (02-17-2025) indicate the IRS systems are actively processing requests and updating their databases. The change from 'non-filing' to 'no record of return filed' is a standard early-season transition that occurs when the IRS begins processing current year returns. This status appears on your Wage and Income Transcript for ALL_FORMS, which means it's checking across all possible tax form types for the 2024 tax year. The fact that you're able to access this transcript with your SSN (ending in 3332) shows your account is properly registered in the system. While it may seem concerning to see "no record of return filed," this is completely normal for February of the filing year - especially since most W-2s weren't even required to be submitted to employees until January 31st. This status transition is typically one of the first indicators that the IRS's processing systems are gearing up for the new tax season, though it doesn't specifically mean your individual return has begun processing yet.

Hey just a heads up, I started using taxr.ai to analyze my transcripts and it's been a game changer. It costs $1 but it tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect updates. Way better than trying to decode these cryptic messages ourselves. https://taxr.ai

I went through the exact same thing last month! The change from "non-filing" to "no record of return filed" is actually progress - it means the IRS is actively updating their system for the 2024 tax year. When I saw this status change, my return showed up in the system about 10 days later with a 971 notice code, then processed within another week after that. The key thing is that you're now in their queue and they're looking for your return. Keep checking your Account Transcript (not just W&I) every few days - that's where you'll see the real processing updates with the 150/846 codes when your refund gets approved.

•This is super helpful! @CosmicCaptain what's the difference between the W&I transcript and Account transcript? I've only been checking the wage and income one - should I be looking at both?
