IRS Hold Released Dec 20 - Refund Approved & Scheduled for Jan 6, 2025 Mail Date - Could It Arrive Earlier?
Finally got through to the IRS and they released the hold on my refund on December 20th. My transcript is now showing a scheduled mail date for my refund. According to the IRS website, my tax refund for Tax Year 2023 is scheduled to be mailed by January 07, 2025. The site says "If you do not receive the refund by February 04, 2025, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then." Anyone know if there's a chance I could get it earlier than that? The agent wasn't very clear about the timeline when I called. I filed as Single for 2023, and I've been checking the refund status daily through the IRS website and the IRS2Go app, but the message just says "Your tax refund is scheduled to be mailed by January 07, 2025" with no further details. The status shows as "Refund Approved" but there's no tracking information yet. The website notes that "Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day," so I keep checking, but nothing changes. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with getting their refund before the scheduled date when it says it will be mailed, or if that January date is pretty firm?

The date showing on your transcript (01/06) is typically the official deposit date. While sometimes people get it a few days early, I wouldn't count on it. That date is pretty much set in stone by the IRS system.

depends on your bank too. some release funds early when they see the pending deposit

Word of advice - screenshot everything and keep good records. Sometimes these dates can change and its good to have proof of what you saw.
