IRS 2023 Tax Return: 21 Days Since Acceptance, Still Not Approved. Anyone Else Experiencing Delays?
Hey everyone, I'm getting a bit worried. It's been 21 days since the IRS accepted my 2023 tax return, but the website still says it hasn't been approved. Is anyone else experiencing delays like this? I thought it was supposed to be quicker this year.

Same boat here, buddy. I filed mine about 25 days ago and still nothing. The IRS website is about as useful as a chocolate teapot right now. š

25 days? Amateur hour. Try 40 days and counting. This is getting ridiculous.

40 days?! Jeez, I hope I don't end up waiting that long. Have you tried calling them?

Tried calling? More like tried and failed. Their hold times are insane. I gave up after 2 hours.

Have you checked your tax transcript? Sometimes it shows more info than the Where's My Refund tool. You can access it on the IRS website.

I haven't tried that yet. How do I find the tax transcript on their site?

Go to IRS.gov, click on 'Get Transcript Online' under 'Tools'. You'll need to create an account if you haven't already. Once you're in, request the 2023 Account Transcript. It'll show any actions taken on your account.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

$20 to talk to the IRS? That's highway robbery! š¤

I get the skepticism, but after wasting hours on hold, $20 was worth it to me. They got me through in about 45 minutes.

Interesting. How does it work exactly? Do they just keep redialing until they get through?

From what I understand, they use some kind of automated system to navigate the phone tree and wait on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls your phone. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Listen up, folks. I've been through this rodeo before, and here's what you need to know about IRS delays: ā¢ The 21-day timeframe is just a guideline, not a guarantee. ā¢ Certain factors can trigger additional review, like claiming EITC or CTC. ā¢ If you filed electronically and chose direct deposit, you're already ahead of the game. ā¢ Sometimes, no news is good news. If you haven't received any letters requesting additional info, your return is probably just in the queue. ā¢ The "Where's My Refund" tool updates once daily, usually overnight. ā¢ Calling the IRS before 21 days have passed (for e-file) or 6 weeks (for paper returns) won't speed things up. Bottom line: Be patient, keep an eye on your mailbox for any IRS correspondence, and check your tax transcript as others have suggested. If it's been more than 6 weeks, then it might be time to start making some calls.

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS seems to be slower this year compared to last? I swear I got my refund within two weeks last time.

Pro tip: If you're really desperate to get through to the IRS, try calling your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help push things along if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay.

I've never heard of the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Is that part of the IRS?

Yep, it's an independent organization within the IRS. They're like the customer service superheroes of the tax world. Google 'TAS + your state' to find your local office.

Unpopular opinion: Maybe the IRS is understaffed and underfunded, and that's why everything takes so long? Just a thought.
