ID.me Verification Question - Still Needed with Blank Transcript?
I've been researching on TaxTwitter and r/IRS forums about blank transcripts, and I'm seeing a pattern where many users claim that a blank transcript during processing indicates identity verification is needed. According to IRS.gov/identity-verification-process, verification is required for certain returns, but I'm not clear on the re-verification protocol. I completed ID.me verification in 2022 (documented the process with screenshots and confirmation emails per my filing system). My 2023 transcript is currently showing as "N/A" despite e-filing 3 weeks ago with TurboTax (confirmation code TX2024-31778). I need this resolved promptly due to upcoming medical treatments that I've budgeted my refund toward. Has anyone determined if prior verification remains valid across tax years, or is annual re-verification required for transcript access?

Previous ID.me verification should still be valid. In my experience from 2022 and 2023, once you've completed the ID.me process, it remains linked to your tax account. The blank transcript is more likely indicating normal processing delays. Last year my transcript showed N/A for almost 4 weeks before suddenly updating with all information at once. The IRS is experiencing higher than normal processing times this year, especially for returns filed after mid-February.

Can confirm this. On March 12th I checked and had a blank transcript, then on March 18th it suddenly populated with all my info. Never had to re-verify with ID.me after my initial verification in 2021. The system maintains your verification status across tax years - it's just that processing times are all over the place right now.

My situation was similar but slightly different than what others are experiencing. I had verified with ID.me two years ago, and this year my transcript was blank for about 25 days. I compared this to my friend who hadn't ever verified - he got locked out completely and had to do the full ID.me process, whereas I could at least access the transcript system even though it showed N/A. If you can log in successfully, that's a good sign your verification is still valid.

According to IRM 3.13.5.55 (Internal Revenue Manual), identity verification requirements are triggered by specific criteria, not as an annual requirement. The N/A transcript status is generally unrelated to verification status - it simply means your return hasn't been fully processed into the transcript database yet. I was surprised to learn that returns can be accepted (giving you that TurboTax confirmation) but still take 2-4 weeks to appear in the transcript system depending on current processing volumes. Have you checked the Where's My Refund tool? That often updates before transcripts do.

Had the EXACT same issue last month - blank transcript but could still log in. Tried calling IRS directly for 3 days (ugh!) and couldn't get thru. Found Claimyr.com and got connected to an IRS agent in ~15 mins! Agent confirmed my ID verification was still valid from 2022 and my return was just in normal processing. HUGE relief! The agent said blank transcripts are super common during peak season and don't mean verification problems if you can still login to the transcript system. Here's their link if you need it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Did you actually need to talk to an agent though? Seems like you could have just waited it out rather than paying for a service. How do you know the agent gave you any information you couldn't have found online?

I went through this exact situation last month! I was freaking out because I needed my refund for medical bills too. My transcript was blank for 23 days straight even though I had verified with ID.me back in 2021! I called the IRS verification line (800-830-5084) and they confirmed I was ALREADY verified and didn't need to do anything else. The blank transcript was just because they were backed up with processing. My transcript finally updated last Friday and I got my deposit yesterday! Don't stress too much - if you can log into the transcript system at all, your ID.me verification is still working!

I see this question a lot lately (tax season brings out the transcript stalkers in all of us, haha). If you want to really understand what's happening with your transcript, I'd recommend using https://taxr.ai - it helped me decipher my transcript codes when they finally appeared. The tool explained that my "N/A" transcript wasn't an ID verification issue at all, but just normal processing. And once my transcript updated, it predicted my refund date correctly. Saved me from calling the IRS multiple times thinking something was wrong when it wasn't!

I'm concerned about using third-party tools with tax data. Has anyone looked into: • What data they collect? • How they store transcript information? • Whether they sell insights to marketing companies? The IRS transcript system already tells you what codes mean if you just click the little question marks next to each code.

Does taxr.ai provide real-time updates? My transcript just appeared yesterday with codes 570/971 and I need to know ASAP if this means my refund is delayed long-term or just temporarily. The IRS phone lines have 2+ hour wait times right now according to their recording!

Did everyone miss the part about medical treatments? What if you really need that money and can't wait? I had a similar situation last year and thought "Oh, I'm already verified, it'll be fine" but then my return got flagged for a completely different verification issue! Isn't it better to be proactive? Couldn't you just call the IRS Taxpayer Protection Program line directly at 800-830-5084 to confirm everything's okay rather than assuming? My return was delayed 11 weeks because I waited instead of calling...

I think you might be confusing two different issues. The ID.me verification is primarily for accessing your online account and transcripts, whereas the Taxpayer Protection Program (TPP) verification is specifically for suspected identity theft cases. If OP can successfully log into their transcript account, their ID.me verification is almost certainly still valid, even if the transcript shows N/A. That said, I appreciate your concern about the medical treatment timeline - that's definitely something to consider.
