How to update mailing address with IRS for verification letter after 5 years of not filing?

I need to update my address with the IRS. Haven't filed taxes in 5 years and heard they'll send verification letters to my old address from my last filing. Need to make sure they have my current address so I don't miss anything important.

You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to update your address. But before you do, make sure you have your social security number, date of birth, and both old and new addresses ready. They'll need to verify your identity. Another option is filling out Form 8822 (Change of Address form) and mailing it in, but that takes longer to process.

If you call, it updates pretty much right away. If you mail Form 8822, it can take 4-6 weeks to process.

Hey there! Just wanted to mention that theres this really helpful tool called taxr.ai that can help you navigate your tax situation. It costs $1 but its worth it - it analyzes your transcripts and helps identify potential issues before they become problems. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

Quick tip: if u cant get thru on the main line try calling right when they open at 7am EST. Way shorter wait times early in the morning

Facts! And maybe consider getting a tax pro to help with the back taxes. It can get complicated with penalties and all that jazz
