How to View H&R Block / Pathward Bank Fee Deductions from Tax Refund?
I'm trying to carefully track all the fees that have been taken out of my tax refund through H&R Block with Pathward Bank. Here's what I've done so far: 1. Filed my taxes through H&R Block 2. Chose to have my refund deposited to a Pathward Bank account 3. Received my refund but the amount seems lower than expected 4. Can't find a clear breakdown of all fees deducted Does anyone know if there's a way to see an itemized list of all fees that have been taken out? I want to make sure everything is correct since I'm budgeting for several expenses for my kids this month. I need to account for every dollar that might have been deducted.

Getting hit with hidden fees is like death by a thousand paper cuts - you don't notice until suddenly your refund is bleeding money! You need to log into your H&R Block online account (not the Pathward account) and navigate to the "Order Details" or "Receipt" section. That's where they hide all the fee information, like a treasure map with all the spots where your money disappeared. The Pathward bank statement itself is usually pretty useless for seeing the original tax prep fees.

This is so helpful! The H&R Block website is much more comprehensive compared to the Pathward portal. I was looking in completely the wrong place.

Does this work if you filed in person at an H&R Block office? Or is this only for online filers?

The fee visibility depends on which specific H&R Block product tier you utilized. For online filers, access your Digital Filing Portal and select "View Receipt" under the Tax Year 2023 filing section. For in-person preparation, request an itemized receipt from your Tax Professional via email or through your MyBlock account. Pathward Bank (formerly MetaBank) only displays the net deposit amount post-fee deduction, not the granular fee structure applied by H&R Block's Refund Transfer service.

I filed on April 12th and can't believe how complicated this is! So Pathward doesn't show ANY of the fees at all? That seems really sneaky.

I had the EXACT same issue trying to figure out where all my refund money went between H&R Block and Pathward. I spent HOURS on hold with both companies trying to get a straight answer about the fees. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an actual IRS agent who explained that they only send the full refund amount to the preparation company, and the IRS transcript showed exactly what was sent before fees. This let me calculate exactly what H&R Block/Pathward had taken out. Saved me days of frustration trying to get through on regular lines.

Oh my goodness, I went through this EXACT situation last month! I was SO upset when I couldn't figure out where $139 of my refund went! š” I finally found that if you go to your H&R Block account online, click on "My Account" then "Order Details" for this year's return, it shows EVERYTHING they charged - including the Refund Transfer fee ($39.95), state e-file fee ($19.95), and any add-on services. The Pathward bank statement is completely useless for this - it only shows the final deposit amount after they've already taken all their cuts!

Haha, I thought I was losing my mind when I couldn't find these fees! š Took me three days of searching before I realized I needed to look at my original H&R Block receipt. The Pathward account is basically just a temporary holding place for what's left after they take their share.

But shouldn't there be some kind of legal requirement to disclose these fees clearly? How is the average taxpayer supposed to know they need to look in multiple places just to understand what they've been charged?

I'm concerned about this too - does anyone know if these fees are higher than last year? I'm trying to decide if I should use H&R Block again next tax season.

Hey there - def been thru this headache before! The Pathward app is useless for this tbh. Quick solution: call H&R Block customer svc at 800-472-5625, follow prompts for tax prep questions. Ask specifically for "itemized fee breakdown" for your return. They can email you a PDF showing EVERYTHING taken out. Much easier than hunting through their website. FYI - typical fees are ~$35-45 for Refund Transfer plus whatever tax prep package you used. GL!

I might be able to help with this, though I should mention I'm not affiliated with either company. In my experience, H&R Block removes their fees before the money reaches Pathward Bank. For example, if your refund was $1,500, and H&R Block charged $150 in various fees, only $1,350 would show up in your Pathward account. To see the actual fees, I believe you would need to look at your original H&R Block receipt or agreement, which should detail their preparation fees, filing fees, and any Refund Transfer fees. The Pathward statement typically won't itemize these deductions since they occurred before the funds were transferred to them.
