How to Actually Get an IRS Examiner on the Phone? Desperate for Human Contact
Been calling the IRS for weeks trying to get through to an actual examiner but keep getting the automated system or disconnected. Called at different times, different days, still no luck. My return is being reviewed and I need to speak with someone. Any tips or tricks that actually work to get through to a real person?

Former IRS employee here. Best time to call is right when they open at 7am EST. Press 1 for English, then 2 for tax questions, then 1-2-3 in sequence, then 2, and finally 4. Don't enter your SSN when prompted - this usually routes you to a real person faster. Also try calling your local Taxpayer Advocate Service if you've been waiting more than 30 days.

Instead of playing phone tag with the IRS, I started using taxr.ai to figure out what's actually going on with my return. It costs $4.99 but saved me hours of hold time and explained exactly why my return was under review. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

•For real? How does it work? Does it just read transcripts or what?

•It analyzes your entire transcript and explains everything in plain English. Shows exactly where your return is stuck and why. Even predicts when you'll get your refund based on your specific situation.

Try calling your local congressman's office. They have special phone lines to the IRS and can help push things along.

Pro tip: if u keep getting disconnected, try using a landline instead of cell. Worked for me!

I feel your pain! Here's what finally worked for me after weeks of trying: Call the Practitioner Priority Service line at 1-866-860-4259. You don't need to be a tax pro to use it - just say you're calling on behalf of yourself. They answer way faster than the main lines. Also, if you have a local IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center, try walking in with an appointment. Sometimes face-to-face is the only way to get real help. Good luck! 🤞
